Welcome To The Mudflats

Welcome To The Mudflats Forum

Once upon a time, there was a blog on the interwebz called Mudflats. The blog tiptoed quietly through the muck of Alaskan Politics. Only a lucky few knew of the existence of this blog.

Then one day, a man who was running for President was looking for a running mate. Rather than choose one of the usual suspects, he chose a relatively unknown hockey mom who happened to be the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.

The Googles and Tubes were overwhelmed by people looking for information on Sarah Palin, and many of those people found themselves at Mudflats. And then something magical began to happen.

People united - not by party, but by a genuine concern for the future of the United States Of America - people started to connect via the Mudflats blog. The comments section was literally smoking hot, with thousands of comments posted. People began to make friends. And unlike a normal political site, trolls were ignored - or people responded with correct information to correct the misinformation the trolls were trying to spread.

Although Mudflats was hatched in Alaska, and is named for the dangerous but enticing mudflats that surround Cook Inlet, the blog has become a national - and international - meeting place for discussion, commiseration, and calls to action.

There were many of us who spend many an evening hitting shift and reload in order to read the latest comments on the blog. The community had outgrown the comments section, and there was a need for a home worthy of the community.

So a part time blogger and sometime blog host known as Snoskred sent an email to AKMuckraker, offering to help out by putting together these forums. And AKMuckraker replied with a yes. And now here we are. So grab your mud boots, a rake, and a brown bag lunch, and come join us on the brand new Mudflats Forum!

Go ahead and register, then follow the how to guide on setting up your profile - note that you have a special place in your profile for your Sarah Palin Baby Name as these have become so popular. Then settle in, introduce yourself, and get posting..

Oh, one last thing. There are always rules, even for playing in the mud, so be sure to read through the forum guidelines before you jump in!

This forum is the home of the Forum Guidelines. Please make sure to read these before posting on the forums.

This forum also contains how to guides for many of the forum features.

If you want to know how to do something but do not see a guide here, let the Admins know.

FYI - These how to guides have been *ahem* borrowed from another set of forums Snoskred administrates due to a lack of time to create new ones.

The forum administrators did not add "no rudeness" to the forum rules initially as it was not felt that it would be necessary. This example has shown us that unfortunately it is necessary. We have now added a new rule -

Forum members must treat fellow members, moderators and administrators with respect and politeness. We embrace the spirit of civil disagreement. We agree to agree and to disagree - as strongly as need be - without crossing the boundaries into...
Oct 24 2008     How to know where a link goes.

When you're viewing a thread, often you will see a link that looks like this -

Sometimes you can't immediately see where a link goes. If you are someone who likes to know where a link goes before clicking on it, there is an easy way to see where it goes - simply hover over it.

The first thing that you will notice is that the actual link itself will change...

There have been some questions lately about our rules concerning linking to your own blogs. So we thought we would take a moment to explain it in depth - if you have any further questions after reading this, can you please ask them in this thread.  Smiley

1. You are more than welcome to have a link to your own blog in your signature. A lot of members already have one - you can see an example in my own signature. If you want the code for that, please see the bottom of this post.
