When you write a message you might like to use formatting. The icons just above the text box when you write a message allow you to apply some formatting to your writing. Here is what they look like:

We're going to focus on the bottom line in this topic.

To apply the formatting you highlight the text you want formatted, and then click the relevant button.

When you hover your mouse over a button, it will give you a brief description of what that button does (not in this post, however, as this is just a screen shot).

From left to right the buttons do the following.

The picture lets you insert an Image. There will be more on this topic forthcoming - for now, all you need to know is that the button inserts the image code in the code before and after the address of the image.

The globe inserts a link into your post if you want to link to a site off of the forum, or even to another thread on the forum. This method works best if you wish to use words to describe your text.

The envelope (which looks like the old Outlook Express icon) is for inserting an email address - unlocktroll@gmail.com

These three buttons create a table. The first one inserts the required code to start a table, the second starts a row, and the third starts a cell -

Cell 1Cell 2
Cell 4

These three buttons affect the look and positioning of your text -

sup is to put your text in "superscript" - example - "I placed 1st in the 2nd 5th 3rd Bank's competition."

sup is to put your text in "subscript" - example - The Chemical Formula for Water is - H2O, Hydrogen Peroxide is H2O2 and Ethanol is C2H4OH.

The typewriter puts your text into Courier, or typewriter/teletext format.

These also change the look of your post -

The pound sign (a/k/a Hash) allows you to insert code into your text -

Code:
Insert the [code] code into your text to make code

The Quote bubble inserts a quote. A note about this - if you use «quote=name», the quote box will appear as follows -

Quote from: john
sarah is good!

Otherwise, it creates a generic quote -

Quote
sarah is good.

The last button allows you to create a list with two items. Using the «li»«/li» code will allow you to add more items

  • Item 1
  • Item 2

You will see that when you apply the formatting, code will be inserted into your message like this:

[/code]
