Now I've seen pigs fly.

Ultra conservative National Review, home of the likes of Bill Kristol, just published an op-ed piece by feminist Kathleen Parker "Palin Problem: She's Out of Her League".

Money quote:

Quote
If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

and,

Quote
What to do?

McCain can’t repudiate his choice for running mate. He not only risks the wrath of the GOP’s unforgiving base, but he invites others to second-guess his executive decision-making ability. Barack Obama faces the same problem with Biden.

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

 Do it for your country.

I laughed so hard I choked while reading that.

Quote
If Palin were a man, we’d all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she’s a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true.

So say it already, and say it somewhere where people will actually hear you.

Palin didn’t make a mess cracking the glass ceiling. She simply glided through it.

It was fun while it lasted.

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

What the Republicans need to realize is that you can't just change your mind and now not like her after they jumped on board the Palin bandwagon (which was sitting on a bridge to no where).  If they take her off the ticket, then they will look even worse than they do already.  They will lose the conservative religious vote, that they only got because of Palin.  I don't think they are ready or willing to lose those and other votes too.   So she'll stay on the ticket, unless they can somehow convince her to back out.  Republicans are stuck with her.  I would say to them "This is your party, this is your ticket.  If you don't like it, vote for Obama".  It seems pretty simple to me.

This article by Kathleen Parker, a conservative, is far more damning to Palin than anything the left could do or say.
I read it gleefully thinking that somewhere, Hillary Clinton is reading it and laughing.

Why is it that every time I see Sarah Palin on TV she keeps looking around like someone is going to hand her a bouquet of roses, put a crown on her head and give her a sash that says, " Queen of America" 2009?

Did I hear Sarah Palin say that computers are tools of the Devil?

Fareed Zakaria, in Newsweek, stating the obvious about both Palin and what her selection says about McCain:

"Can we now admit the obvious? Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president. She is a feisty, charismatic politician who has done some good things in Alaska. But she has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start. The next administration is going to face a set of challenges unlike any in recent memory. There is an ongoing military operation in Iraq that still costs $10 billion a month, a war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan that is not going well and is not easily fixed. Iran, Russia and Venezuela present tough strategic challenges.

Domestically, the bailout and reform of the financial industry will take years and hundreds of billions of dollars. Health-care costs, unless curtailed, will bankrupt the federal government. Social Security, immigration, collapsing infrastructure and education are all going to get much worse if they are not handled soon…

…In these times, for John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible. McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important case, it is simply not true."

Ya know, after viewing that Philly protest and listening to, "Sarah Go Home!", well, I AM concerned about an angry riot if O doesn't win.
A very angry mob of Obama voters and you'll find me right in the middle of them.
We won't be violent, of course, but we will be LOUD and angry.
Here's the thing. Does anybody remember HUNDREDS of protestors screaming at a freakin' VICE Prez candidate to go home? Or even a presidential candidate for that matter.
I scanned my little brain and unless motherhood has made me so dang tired and dumb these days (toddlers will do that to ya) I most certainly can't remember such an angry and loud impromptu response.
Due to my crippling themudflats.net addiction, I keep looking at the clock and thinking, "Okay, what time is it in Alaska? Now, if the rally wraps up at 2 there and our beloved blog writer chats afterwards, has coffee, packs up her camera and signs....and then only if she goes directly home....she should have the pictures up, by say....6:30pm central ...."

That's sad!

I can't wait to hear and see the rally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hear those cracks?
It ain't the ceiling, it's the spine of the Republican party.
Enjoy!
We should start a game.
Okay, kids, Name That Excuse!
"Good morning fellow Americans, we are disappointed to announce to you today that the Vice Presidential debate has been canceled due to...."

Insert excuse.

I go for hospitalization.

That is the only way to hide her for awhile.
Exhaustion. Flu. Find the celebrity excuse.
Reporters can't get to her in the hospital.
Well, then again....

Anyway, enjoy the cracking sound and the link below:
A growing number of Republicans are expressing concern about Sarah Palin's uneven - and sometimes downright awkward - performances in her limited media appearances.

Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, a former Palin supporter, says the vice presidential nominee should step aside. Kathryn Jean Lopez, writing for the conservative National Review, says "that's not a crazy suggestion" and that "something's gotta change."

Tony Fabrizio, a GOP strategist, says Palin's recent CBS appearance isn't disqualifying but is certainly alarming. "You can't continue to have interviews like that and not take on water."

"I have not been blown away by the interviews from her, but at the same time, I haven't come away from them thinking she doesn't know s-t," said Chris Lacivita, a GOP strategist. "But she ain't Dick Cheney, nor Joe Biden and definitely not Hillary Clinton."

Oh, and P.S. found the story first on Fox News website, but it's just not right to give them the hits....so, use the link above if you like.

So far the only conservatives who are speaking out against Palin are the "intellectuals".  They are in the minority.

I expect that Palin will hold her own during the debate and then be sequestered until Jan 20th.

With the vote suppression shenanigans of the republicans, the racism, and a large unregistered population, I wouldn't be suprised if McCain wins/steals this election.

I'm thinking/hoping that things really start turning when endorsement season begins.  I can't see a lot of newspapers justifying the McCain/Palin ticket.

Drip, drip, drip...

Let's see, George Will, David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, Fareed Zakaria, and now Gloria Borger, too.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/30/borger.palin/index.html

She compares the nod to a crap shoot with all the chips on the table... and then:

"Yikes" (the Tina Fey redux of the Couric interview) and
"Cringe" (Palin's assessment of McCain at the first debate  -- "He did awesome!").  And finally, on preparing for the VP debate,
"She's clearly studying and cramming, but it's like trying to cram for an exam when you haven't really taken the class."

The Faux News only viewers are never going to change their view of her, but CNN gets a lot of the independents and reasonably sentient beings, as does Newsweek.

I was cruising over to Newsweek to add the link to Zakaria's piece there and found this one instead. Comparing Palin and Clarence Thomas when the search for diversity relies only on skin color or gender.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/161228  OUCH!  Granted Lithwick also writes for Salon, but it's a pretty startling perspective.
Here's the Zakaria piece (currently #4 on the most read list!) http://www.newsweek.com/id/161204

According to Keith Olbermann, Sarah has until Oct 1st.  I believe that if she holds her own, (as Rachel Maddow says, Sarah pronounces "and" correctly) she will stay in the race.  If she flubs it like she has apparently flubbed the practice debates, she may well find family matters more pressing and return to Alaska.  (bless all of you who live there)

I hope she remains.  She's good news for the blue team.

Try the Bush 2005 inauguration parade, when they corralled the protesters behind barracades -- I seem to remember police using fire hoses too, but I may be misremembering.

Were there that many protesters at the Republican convention this year?

But she's incredibly scary for the nation an I love our nation more.  My position is slightly muted by the fact that I'm starting to learn stuff that really scares me about McCain, rather than just thinking he's wrong on certain issues and )life would go on more or less) A new running mate might put him in the White House.)
But two scary people in position of POTUS and VPOTUS is doubly scary, and I have no hope that McCain wlll back out.
Holy Moly.  Freud needs to come psychoanlyze the American psyche.!
