I visited Alaska in 2007 and fell in love with the incredible beauty.  It seemed so perfect.  I so wanted to move there.

Then I found this blog.  I never dreamed Alaska could be so full of petty political intrigue.  It's just like home.  Such a letdown.

that's a great name--Lickskillet.  Is there a story behind the name?  A famine comes to mind...

I misread it.  I thought it was a place name.  I live down the road from Ball's Gap, not too far from Big Bone Lick, and I've got relatives in Big Ugly.  I mean, really, Lickskillet fits right in.

Lickskillet is not only a good pseudonym--it's a great place and yes, there's a story.  Something about people were so poor here they had to lick the skillet to get every bit of food.  Lickskillet is not far from Kingston, TN but we have a Harriman, TN zip code (and Rockwood utilities).

I love Southern place names.  Your Ball's Gap sounds like the Ball Camp "community" between Knoxville and Oak Ridge.  Not a town, just a wide place in the road.  Seems like I've heard of Big Bone Lick too...

Hey Lickskillet. Alaska and your home sound like everywhere in the political sense. You'd feel right at home in Texas too.  I saw ya'll were talking about funny names of towns. I have cousins who live in a small town just outside Houston with an odd name. It's called Cut'nShoot Wink
