We're a bedroom community so we don't have any suburbs! We're actually 7 times smaller than Wasilla so I thought it was rather interesting how similar our municipal governments are even though the mayor's salary isn't.
This is a fantastic site that I stumbled across almost 3 weeks ago now looking for City of Wasilla documents. I can and can't believe how it's taken off! So much good can be done here even after Palin loses the presidency for McCain ... that he was losing before he brought her in.
Oh, by the way, my name translates to Timber Challenger Palin though I would have preferred Black Gold Challenger ...
Keep up the great work folks!

Phillip K Dick was right.

I did know the trivia about Northern Exposure (loved that show!) but what does it mean to be a bedroom community?

Nisperos , sheesh, nah... I didn't know about that! Maybe I should write about it?
Did you also know it's where the 1978 film "The Runner Stumbles" was filmed? With Dick Van Dyke & Kathleen Quinlan? Roslyn is also home to the first black Mayor of Washington State, William Craven, whose family still lives here ... actually, so does he, he's my neighbor down the street!
Lots of wonderful stories originate in Roslyn .... the first steward of Alaska, Phillip Gallaher, came from Roslyn ...
Glad to see you made it over nisperos!

Before Wasilla became the strip mall capital of Alaska, it was known as a 'bedroom' community of Anchorage. It's merely a smaller room off the bigger room of the big cities without all the ameneties. I don't know if at 8,000 people Wasilla still qualifies for the term 'bedroom community', but ours at 1,100 certainly does!

Ah, thanks for the explanation.
I lived in Washington State for a year - what a beautiful part of the country. I was in Omak, on the reservation of the Colville Confederated Tribes. That was quite an experience!

Interesting that you should mention that, Deep. Tom Craven, the son of William, was one of the firefighters killed in that area seven years ago in th 30 Mile Fire. I heard they just erected a memorial for those heroes in Winthrop in May. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it over for the dedication. Wonderful family.

I lived in Washington State for a year as well. Outside the lovely town of Chelan, WA while in 8th grade. Loved it there! This was a couple of years ago (1976!).

Hi Rubo, wow, all this talk about Chelan . Reminds me of when I was a kid. I did all my Teen years in Wenatchee and spent much time at "The Lake".

Gabby dog! I had a biscuit for you, too!
We are in the first stages of planning our Washington Mud Stock
http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,4864.0.html
Taking into consideration the challenges of crossing the pass in winter, spring is looking like a good time to plan. I'm really hoping to host this here in Roslyn but will wait to hear from a few more fellow Washingtonians!
Stop by again next time you're out and about!
