Wichita, to be specific.
I have seen other Kansans post comments on the blog; maybe some of you will join the forum as well. Be sure to say hello if you do.

Hi John. I'm from that red of red states too. Same city. Isn't this a refreshing place where rational sane people can be found? I've been lurking since shortly after we all went searching for info on Palin and found this place full of info, ideas, people of interest. Nice, huh?
We live among people just like Sarah Palin. We have people in Kansas who would need to be made up if they didn't already exist! Our little state has 105 counties and ONE of them votes blue -- Douglas County, where Lawrence, Kansas, home of Kansas University is our only bastion of "liberal." Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU! We in Kansas are safe from gays -- passed that bill easily! We have concealed carry and it seems there must be lots to be afraid of (even tho we're safe from gays marrying! go figure?). Personally, those who are so very afraid scare me the most. Run of the mill Kansans personify the people who cling to their guns and religion so when Obama made that comment it was one a small number of us recognized as truth and gave many yet another reason to be against him. But don't worry. Even tho Sarah Palin has energized Kansans and more will line up to vote this fall instead of sitting this one out, the SIX electoral votes were safely in the McCain column and more excitement won't give him any more electoral votes.
Thanks for this place where I can read about progressive ideas and feel hope! I don't post much as someone always says just what I think and says it better than I could have. I do feel better that I've kinda introduced myself instead of being just a lurker.

lindaks,
Hello, neighbor.
I hear you, and I know what the polls say. On the other hand, I happened to be in attendance at Obama's rally in El Dorado the week before Super Tuesday: a line of people waiting for hours in a driving snow; inside, as diverse a gathering as you're even likely to see in Butler County. And at my caucus site the following week, the party officials (who said they had been expecting at most a few hundred folks) noted that over 1600 were in attendance, 600 of them new voters. Over 1300 of the total were for Obama.
We may live in a deeply-red state and my father-in-law likes McCain because "he's a veteran," but that doesn't mean that all those folks are just hunky-dory with the present state of things (my father-in-law can't stand Bush, for example). To vote for a candidate because "S/he's a good (wo)man" cuts a lot less ice these days than it did back in, oh, 2000.
And hello to you as well, Ms. Princess. I'm pretty certain the Democrats will carry Douglas County . . .
They even print T-shirts here with
Wizard of Oz
references, you out-of-state folks. We've probably heard, many many times, what you regard as your best material. Not dissin'--just sayin'.

Yepper JohnB, Douglas County Dems are pretty active. Driving around town yesterday, I only saw Obama signs, no McCain signs... I have seen exactly ONE McCain bumper sticker. Talked to a friend from Topeka who was doing business out in Western KS yesterday. He said he'd seen a few McCain stickers, but had seen an equal number of Obama so hey who knows maybe we'll turn our red state a lovely shade of purple?
I envy you for the El Dorado meet... and I love your story about the caucus... I blogged about it a few weeks back. Very similar story here -- we stood outside in the sleet for over an hour just to get in.
I hope the Obama campaign can work in a quick visit to the state before the election. When the Kerry/Edwards train wizzed by several hundred people waiting in the dark in 2004 it was soooo disappointing. When Edwards came back a couple of days later it really fired up the troops.

Should have mentioned some time ago that I was canvassed by an Obama volunteer a couple of weeks ago and have received Obama flyers in the mail. Obama had my vote a long time ago, but that visit counts for a great deal.
Nothing at all from the McCain campaign--not even a robo-call.
Quite apart from politics, the most admirable thing about the Obama campaign is that, no matter a state's alleged redness or blueness, it goes after votes in a way I've never seen a presidential campaign do. Obama will win this election (with or without Kansas' electoral votes) because it has
earned
that win.
And in response to the SwinePrincess' wish: You know, a post-election rally in Kansas (with his grandmother, if she's able to travel) would be a very cool (and powerfully-symbolic) thing.

Kansas, where Toot originated and SP clicked her heels three times and said, "I wish I were a reformer. I wish I were a reformer. I wish I were a reformer."
Good to have that Kansas connection. Cheers from Cecily.

Hello fellow progressives. I live in Johnson County Kansas and worked very hard in KC Mo for Obama. Thank heavens for the election results! On a bad note, Brownback is supposedly going to run for governor once Kathleen's term has expired. Knowledgable people are saying that he will be virtually unbeatable. That is not good news at all.

Greetings
I lived in prairie Village in the mid-70s, after my husband and I graduated from KU (Go Hawks- last basketball season was awesome). We moved to Denver in 1977, and we've been here ever since, but I do try to get to Lawrence once a year to get my Jayhawk fix.
I am originally from Omaha, and still get back there to see family...
