Welcome, southernbelle!  As you can see, we're all a bunch of friendly, helpful people here.  No need to feel worried about asking questions.  I'm only 38 and don't have any clue what many of the texting acronyms mean.  We're all in the boat together.  It you go to the "The Original Mudflats Blog" link at the top of any of the Forum pages, you should be able to find the link to the Palin Baby Name Generator site (if you really want a Palin Baby Name...).  We're loads of fun here and there, so join in the fun!

Thanks everyone,
I am so embarrassed to ask these dumb questions but at least now I know! I thought that's what an avatar was and thought that's what a troll was so I'm happy to know I'm not a complete idjit but I swear I could not figure out LOL. Being a classic southern belle I assumed it was like Y'all take care aka lots of love. Thanks for taking the time. I appreciate it.
So instead of LOL here's my signoff: YTC.

What a lovely signoff, southernbelle!  (And you're welcome!)

And, before you feel too embarrassed, I'm not proud of my knowledge of internet acronyms, since that knowledge is the result of WAY too much time spent in front of the computer.  (Years.  Really.)  I'd imagine you were out there having a life*.

I tried to download one of those, but the file was too big and the connection kept timing out.   Smiley

MUD = Multi-User Dungeon (or Multi-User Domain), which is basically a multi-player computer role-playing game that's often text-based.

I think you're much cooler not knowing this, Mer!   Wink

*nodnod*  (Although I will always have a spot in my heart for Zork II, a non-MUD text-based adventure game.  The hours of fun I had typing nonsense commands just to get the computer respond, "I don't know how to sneeze" or whatever we'd typed in.)

Is there somewhere that you can take a picture however large which you already have on "my pictures" in your computer and turn it into an avatar?

Nisperos,
I think you can try to make an avatar with a regular photo, from one on your computer. If you go to the 'browse' button on the profile layout (I think that's where it is) it will bring up the jpg (or other) numbers for the photo you have on your computer. At least that's how I did it on my Mac. It went straight from my saved photo to avatar.
It's worth a try anyway.

UPDATE- had to resize; did so at Picnik.  Cool

Thank you, I'll probably try that tomorrow.
Register with wordpress.com, then go to gravatar.com and enter your email address and choose
your pic. If I remember correctly, your pic will then follow your email address at all wordpress sites. If I
forgot something, let me know and I'll change mine and tell you what I did.

If you have Windows Photo Gallery, you can crop it there and size it to fit here. I tried to use one of my pics
without cropping it and it was too large. I plan to do this tomorrow and see if it works. Never know till it is tried.  Undecided

Nisperos, Deuce2 AL, et al...

This is probably buried in the thread somewhere, so I'll re-post it.

There are several free on-line image editing sites.  Just Google "free online image editing".

Here's one I found to be pretty easy to use, but there are many others as well:  http://www.picnik.com/

If you're going to use the image for your avatar, make sure you size it to 100x100 pixels or smaller.

Hope that helps!  Can't wait to see your new avatars!

How To - Set Up A Gravatar

Gravatars are the ones you see on the wordpress site. So if you follow the instructions for this above, you will have an avatar on the mudflats blog.
