Hi all, my name is Arn (many of you knew that already) I'm stuck out here in the woods in NorthEastern PA and my only neighbors are a herd of sheep, a few cows, two horses out back and an undisclosed number of wild animals, of those I can verify (by the fact that they've been in my yard a number of times) there are at least 3 bears, a dozen deer, two regularly returning raccoons, an uncountable number of rabbits and squirrels, and one little guy that I've only caught a couple of glimpses of as he scurried off, he kinda looked like a badger on the run (I've never seen him in daylight for a good look) but I don't believe I've ever heard of any around here, they are more of a western animal so perhaps he is just a quick groundhog or something.
Anyway, with no human neighbors to speak of, I have made friends with as many of my furry visitors as possible. I have a standing agreement with the bears that I will share whatever leftover fish (mostly salmon) I have after meals, and any apples, pears, etc. that I feel like parting with whenever they are around and in exchange they agree to stay off of my porch and out of my garbage can. So far, this has worked out well for me as well as for them. The deer get whatever vegetables I toss out for them and I throw a fairly steady supply of hay out in the winter when live plants are not readily available. The raccoons fend for themselves, they are very skilled at getting the latched on lid off of the garbage can, and they often stand on the porch and yell at me whenever I take the garbage from them and put the lid back on, but overall they are more the friendly chatter type, they just don't like me interfering with their scrounging.
From the original Mudflats site I know that most of you are very intelligent and straightforward honest people and I'm honored to be in your company, dummies like me don't associate with the mental elites very often.
Right off, everyone should know that I am a nonconformist. I don't adhere to any political party or consider myself a liberal or a conservative, those are just words that mean very little to me. I vote on issues that I care about and I vote for people, not parties. In general, I see politics as a 6000 year old blunder by man. Anytime you try to have a few lead the masses you are destined to have confusion and chaos on a grand scale. No form of government has ever succeeded and none ever will, and history has shown that all governments are destined to fall and be replaced by other governments. We've had a good 200 year run, but in the overall scheme of things that's not really that long (eight generations) and it wont last forever.
Lastly, I am a hippie, always have been, always will be. If you read my blogs you will notice from time to time that I post on the fight to legalize marijuana, I am an active member of NORML and I grow my own. I've never sold, or for that matter, bought marijuana and I don't get into the whole drug "scene" at all, I am just a long haired country boy who prefers green over alcohol (I don't drink at all). For those of you who may worry about me posting an admission to that, don't. I have never hidden it from anyone and I never will. When one of the major news networks ran a special report not long ago on the percieved dangers of new high potency pot with claims that it could lead to dementia and insanity I wrote several letters to the network and the reporters responsible for the broadcast blasting their claims and I have been in regular contact with government angencies and law enforcement angencies over issues like HR5843. So my standing as a consuming hippie is well know in legal circles.
That's about it for me, now I'm off to see who some of you folks are. I've seen your comments, so it will be nice to see some of the people behind those comments. Take care all and I'll see you in the forums.

Everyone, please note my signature at the bottom of the posts, it explains many of my typos and misworded sentences. Along those lines, did anyone else notice that in the title of this post I said Mudfatters, not Mudflatters?
Oh well, smart never was one of my strong points.

Whichferret, I think everyone here with blogs have links to them on their profiles, but anyway, mine is called
blogs for common sense
, it was started by two guys that found they didn't have time to maintain it so they turned it over to me. Thanks for asking though, I try to read the blogs of other members here too, but there are just so many of them that it's impossible to keep up with them all, but I do have to say that this is a wonderful group of people here.

Hello from Appalachia to a caveman. I, live in the woods as well. I have neighbors but at least I don't have to look at them. Hearing them is enough. I am a writer and blogger. I support no political parties and wish we had something called support for humanS

Welcome! I also live in the woods but not quite so remote unfortunately - my goal has been to sell the house and disappear before the disappearing is done for me!
I have been aware for quite some time of the "extraordinary power" that are now in place and given the present financial meltdown we could well be looking at a state of emergency designation.
I am immobilized!!!!! We have not seen the last of bush and co and I fear for this election and the aftermath. Time to get my passport complete with the chip!
Anyway - welcome and peace
