This is where I call home.
Some years in SE (Craig, Sitka), two more in Copper River Country.
Had a nice little bio started then my fingers ran away with the keyboard and it turned into a tome.
Thus, anew: Old time activist (60's) I worked for Robert Kennedy in Chicago in '68, Lincoln Park Zoo...Michigan Avenue confrontations, then Eugene Macarthy, then Phoenix's Art McBrayer in his run against John Rhodes in 1970. McCain's predecessor in Arizona's First Congressional District, then precinct committeeman in Tempe 5 in '72. then a long stretch in a field that forbade political activity.
I've usually kept off membership pages, but after meeting this literally world-wide community of kindred folks, I couldn't resist.
A fisheries biologist by trade,I've retired to my little tin house on Grapevine Mesa, and do photography for my keep. Views for ninety miles on a good day, and Joshua trees and rocks as far as you can see. Like This:
One thing I'll carry over from that...oh, so long intro...is my wish for you all:
peace, love, and most important: freedom

Chandler native here. Lived in Tempe as a young adult, right by ASU, belonged to all the Co-ops. But I am a bit younger than you so by the time I could do much the state was pretty much red

I'm honoured.
Words fail me at this moment (but I'll try). When America looks as if it going to follow the path of Bush, It is so special that AKM has created this beautiful site that allows ordinary people to get vocal - looking at Ed Tinklenberg, I find it gratifying that we have shot down Michele Bachmann. The internet is a force to be reckoned with. And am dying to see more Rankle photographs.

As was once the vernacular...Far out, you like them!
I've been putting together a portfolio for the first commercial public offering, and there's always the lingering doubt as to quality and/or potential interest.
Thus explained, here's a desertscape for mer:.
(Sunset on Virgin Basin)
and something a bit different for Irishgirl:
(Nessie in my woods)
I like color work, but am totally in love with black and white. I've been trying to work out a script to use White and Adams "Zone System Theory" to get the really high contrast, intense, images similar to Ansel Adam's work. This is where I am at the moment.
(Clearing Storm on Grand Wash Cliffs)
Thank you both for the kind words. It always makes the comments pages more fun when I see familiar people there.
Maybe you can tell me...am I likely to cause problems for AKM and Mudflats by using up too much bandwidth posting these links? If that be the case I'll get off the stick and get the albums done and post the link.
(And then just the newest and more experimental for you, or links thereto.)

Rankle,
I'm not sure about bandwidth issues, but please do get off the stick and get the albums done so more people can see this great work!

Rankle,
Mer's post reminded me that it might be time to get some of those images together -- they'd make nifty 2009 calendars! I think you can do them through places like Cafe Press with no upfront cost to you.
And Mer is right on -- we do need more ooohs and ahhhs!

More oohs and aahs coming, you folks have inspired me to "get'er done". A web page is the (now) first order of business.
On a side note, I really liked the idea that
judi hussein that one Obama (10/20/08 - 13:06:37)
had: What a picture it would make of all us mudflatters grinning.
It gave me the thought that we could all put our photos together into a huge "family" pastiche'. Imagine 1200+ and counting Mudflatters in a huge group portrait (shadow silhouette or other representations for those "who must not be identified"). So get those old wanted posters, snapshots, or whatever, and if there's enough interest, I'll get it done in time for the 11/04-05/08 celebration.
Oh, and here's one for today:
Break!
I just checked my inbox...Wow! Thank you for this:
Rankle Hiway Hussein Palin gets the Mudflats Eyecandy award
for the pictures in this thread
He [I am guessing here] was nominated by mer for this award.
Thanks Thanks Thanks ...I guess you like them.

Here comes the ooohs and aaahs.....and WOW!
The Grand Canyon is really one of the most majestically beautiful places in the U.S. I've visited, but envy your access to it....to see it in all its majesty....at various times of day, in every season...
Thanks, Rankle!

To all and sundry:
Anyone wishing to be included in
"The Great 2008 Mudflats Family Entire Massacre Pastiche'"
can send, forward, sneak, or post a photo or other illustration representing yourself to:
grapevine_mesa_graphics *at* yahoo.com
Sizes should be kept reasonable or we'll have a 15 Gig composit, and lastly, please keep it (first amendment rights notwithstanding) ... somewhat safe for work.
Update:
1: I'll be posting a link to an anonymous forwarder so I won't need to see return e-mail addresses. I really don't want that information.
2: An icon or other graphic may serve better, I was thinking about our photos being "loose" on the web and if your feelings about that match mine ... this is a better alternative. (Maybe AKM can put one in that way as well?. AKM?)
(Tip of the hat to Alex for the heads-up)
10/28 Update:
1: I've been trying to find a forwarding site or similar for forwarding graphics for the composite. No luck, I'm afraid. Everything I've seen requires a sign-up or is commercial. The ones that aren't won't send files. So there it stands.
2: Getting some graphics for the pastiche', but so far only a few. Looks like
all
the images
everybody
sent will be in it.

Portfolio update...Y'all may not see me here for a couple days. Madly working on gallery/webpage. Stopped at mainpage during short break to post link to New Yorker story about Ken Adelman stateing he's going to vote for Barack Obama.
This gut has been deeply involved with the Republicans since Goldwater. Not sure it took so link is here:
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/georgepacker/2008/10/not-quite-colin.html
In their heart they know we're right, so to speak.
Posting a new B&W today, figured out how to get photos on here that dont take a half page to display, and still working on the Zone System Script, but I'm getting closer.
