There have been some questions lately about our rules concerning linking to your own blogs. So we thought we would take a moment to explain it in depth - if you have any further questions after reading this, can you please ask them in this thread. 

1. You are more than welcome to have a link to your own blog in your signature. A lot of members already have one - you can see an example in my own signature. If you want the code for that, please see the bottom of this post.

Note : a link in your signature is the best and simplest and easiest way to promote your blog here on the forums, because it appears at the bottom of every post you write. If people want to read more of your writing after reading your post, they will click through.

2. You are more than welcome to put a link to your blog in this thread - Do you have a blog? Link to it in this thread.

3. You are more than welcome to link to political themed blog posts in this thread - Political posts on your blog? Link to them here. I would recommend though, that you not do this every day.

3a. If you want to promote daily, you should save them up and post them once a week with a link to each post with a small quote from that post. You are more than welcome to post once a week in this thread with a link to each political post you posted that week *providing* you do it in an appropriate way eg use a quote block, use the correct kind of link, and make it look like this -

Quote from your blog post within a quote block - no more than a paragraph - alternatively you can write a summary of your post and put that in - if it isn't something that appears on your blog, you don't need to use the quote block.

Then put the link to that blog post eg - When Posting News & Blog Articles

If you have more than one post you are linking to, you can follow the same format with each post you want to link to. Or you might want to alternate between quotes and summaries, it is up to you.

4. Speaking of quoting and linking appropriately, treat your blog post like a news article. If you want to post a link to it, follow these instructions.

5. If there is a thread where you feel a blog post of yours is relevant to and you would like a post a link in that thread, please make sure you also add something of value to the thread in that post. Do not just post a link without explanation and move on. Posting earlier in a thread does not entitle you to post only a link with a one-liner later in the thread.

6. Make sure you are putting the effort in when you are linking - please use the url function as seen in this post. Also, make sure you have given people enough of a quote or summary so they know what they are going to get when they click on the link.

7. If you are linking to something with potentially offensive language or content, please note that prior to the link so people can be aware there is going to be offensive language or content not safe for work.

- Keep in mind many people read the forums from work, so they do not want to be going to a site with pr0n or naked people or swear words.

- Keep in mind that some people might find words offensive that you do not find offensive, so if there is any language which could be considered swearing at the link, you should note it.

8. Please do not post links to your blog in the shout box. They do not belong there. However, you can feel free to post a link to something posted on the forums, if you wish.

In closing, I think everyone can agree that we provide plenty of opportunity for people to promote their own blogs here on the forums without people having to feel like they are spamming the place. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in this thread.
