Hello from Ohio

I'd like to think of myself as your average 50 year old woman from Ohio, but the Palin mania that's hit this area makes me wonder if I'm "average" at all. I have been an Obama supporter since the day he announced he was running. After spending half the weeked reading about Scare-a Palin, I jumped in the car last Sunday to drive up to a rally about a half an hour away to hear Hillary speak. I expected to hear something about the Palin mania from an intelligent woman hoping to calm my sense of dread. I stood should-to-shoulder with about 1500 Obama supporters sweating my ass off in a tiny little high school gym and Hillary said nary a word except to mention the McCain/Palin ticket. Crap! I don't know, maybe it was the heat. After I drove home, I went to Obama's site and ordered an "Alaska for Obama" t-shirt because it appealled to my sense of humor and I felt a little better about my disappointment...tonight I stumbled onto Mudflats and I feel ALOT better...Thanks!

Hi, Hollie
I think the fact that Hillary's completely ignoring Scarahcuda is laudable. Palin thrives on attention -- it's her crystal meth. Just think back to jr hi when the bullies were out and about. They didn't care if they got negative attention -- it was still attention. Same with Sarah. Ignoring her, especially Hillary ignoring her, has got to be sticking in her craw.
The rest of us should follow Hillary's lead. McCain was totally irresponsible to select Palin. Country First??? Get real. We should turn away from attacking Palin directly and start to attack McCain's judgment in selecting her. McCain is weak on every issue that matters to thinking Americans -- including his vaunted foreign policy and national security chops. Given this past week's economic meltdown, we most certainly can't afford another war, and we need to figure out how to end the ones we're in.
The only Palin thread I'm interested in is the one (which I started) on potential debate questions. Those will help showcase her many weaknesses. No amount of debate prep can ready her to match Biden's depth. I agree that she's a terrible choice, but the real issue is how her selection (and the obvious lack of vetting) reflect on McCain's judgment and decision-making skills, to say nothing of his independence.

Hello Ohio
I hope the great people of Ohio will come out for Obama! Please send as many friends and relatives here to Mudflats. There are great articles to read over there on the blog by our leader AKM, but also, this place is full of folks just like us!
And to Palmdale: You are so, so correct abt Hillary.

Hi, Hollie

Palmdale...thanks for the welcome. Of course, you offer up very wise words. It did cross my mind that Hillary was deliberately ignoring Palin and on some level, I see the validity of doing that. On the other hand, I've found that sometimes, when ignored, there are things that snowball out of control and that's the way I was feeling before the rally. The more that I read about McCain's VP pick, the feeling in the pit of my stomach became heavier...when I press the Palin supporters around here for an explanation of why she seems a good choice, I get the most idiotic answers. She has five children and one has Down's Syndrome...shes down-to-earth...she's a woman...blah, blah, blah...you get the drift. Not reasonable answers at all. I read A LOT...maybe too much, LOL!, and I like to read what people think, whether I agree with them or not, just to see all sides of an issue and perhaps help me to form intelligent opinions myself. Since finding Mudflats, I try to check in as often as I can to see what people are talking about because there appear to be many, many intelligent women here. It also makes me feel better about my initial reaction to Palin as the pick. I am anxiously awaiting the debates also to see what questions will be asked and to observe her performance.
