Please do not post entire articles - it may be breaking copyright laws.

We would prefer if you posted a link to the article - and perhaps a *small* quote. For example - here is a post from AKMuckraker presented as we would like to see news or blog articles presented.

Palin Throws Alaska Under the Bus.

Quote
This is not going over well in Alaska.  I’ll use my usual caveat that there are lots of Alaskans who happily subscribe to the “Sarah right or wrong” mentality, and will continue to do so.  However, the progressive take on this whole latest mess is only slightly short of taking torches and pitchforks and surrounding the Attorney General’s office, demanding an end to the stonewalling.  I’ve watched Alaskan progressives that I personally know go from saying, “Wow! I can’t believe I voted for a Republican!” to, “She’s doing OK.  I don’t agree with everything, but I don’t regret my vote” to being so furiously seething angry they just can’t say anything.

And here's how I did it.

1. Highlight the text you want to add the link to (in this case, Palin Throws Alaska Under the Bus.)

2. Click on the world button (outlined with a pink box). This will bring up a popup box.

3. Paste the URL into the popup box. Click ok.

4. Copy *a small amount* of text from the article. Paste it into the posting area. Highlight the text from the article with your mouse.

5. Click on the quote button (outlined with a pink box). This will place the text within a quote box. Using the quote box helps people tell when you are quoting an article, because it places the quote within a lavender box. Wink

Easy! Smiley

A word of warning - if you post too much text from the article, your post may be moderated or even deleted.

We do not want to upset the media or bloggers by over-quoting. Please assist us in this, thanks!

Thanks for this info, I am totally admitting from the get-go I am probably the most uninformed non-tekkie in the country and can do simple em's and such but when it comes to trying to piece s/thing from one place into another, I'm lost. This wb a great help though...let's hope that come November Miz Palin will STILL be saying "I can see Russia from my house..." a quote from the now infamous SNL skit a couple Saturdays ago. I truely thought for the first few moments that it WAS Palin, I knew Obama had sent regrets that he did not want to appear that evening cuz of the hurricane, so I watch mainly to see how Phelps does as host and on comes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler...pretty much until she said the "I can see...." comment I really thot it must be Sarah but why would HIS campaign let her go on SNL....oh my it was a moment to remember, their campaign could hire Tina to do appearances around the country could they not! Thanks again.

Can I just remind everyone that we need to be careful when quoting articles from blogs and the media.  Smiley

I've noticed a lot of overquoting going on - we'll be trimming quotes whenever we see it. Please help us out with this. Wink

I would Like to recommend (and maybe even request) that people put the article title and author in as well as the link (or as the link) when posting an article in the forum.

It makes it much easier to search and see if something has already been posted, and to look for the specific article later.

Hi everyone.

The moderators are having to spend a lot of time on fixing posts where people have -

- overquoted

We cannot put in more than 2-3 paragraphs of the article. If the article is only 2-3 paragraphs long, you should only quote *one* of those paragraphs. Please do not quote entire articles.

- linked incorrectly

We have shown you in the how to that we would like links presented in a specific way. You need to copy the title of the article, and put your link on that title text.

- not putting the author of the article into your post as has now been requested

We are asking for your cooperation to post articles in a way that is acceptable as far as not breaching copyright.

Please take a moment to review the how to in the first post in this thread and assist us in future by posting articles exactly as we have requested.

Serial overquoters may find themselves banned from posting on the forums for 24 hours if you refuse to listen to us and follow the instructions.

We are not asking people to do this for fun, or to be officious, or anything like that. We are asking people to do this because we do not want to breach the copyright of news or blog articles. If an author of an article takes offense they could possibly file a lawsuit. I am sure nobody here wants to place AKMuckraker or the forum team in that kind of position, right?
