Hey everybody:
I've been watching this website for a while, and I thought I would register so I can ask a few questions from the experts up there re Alaskan law, which I dont know anything about.
I live in San Francisco, and I was very interested in this election. If you care, I voted for Obama.
I've been up to AK several times for the salmon fishing in August and always enjoyed myself. I think of AK basically as a really, really cold HI.
Anyway, howdy.

Is it fun being in Alaska?  Guess it depends on how you define fun!

I've lived here 40 years except the 6 years in Florida.

What did you want to know?

Fishing is great in the summer.  This time of year it is cold and fish don't bite as often.  There are still some coho (silver) salmon coming into some streams and rivers, but for the most part, all you'll find this time of year are king salmon (if you fish a long time) and halibut and rockfish.  Up north it is starting to freeze up, so ice fishing will be next on freshwater systems.

Thanks.....

I haven't spent time at blogs before the last 2 weeks.  I don't like extreme partisanship and most things I'd seen written elsewhere were WAY too partisan, full of rumors and lies, and/or misquotes and things taken out of context.

An activist friend mentioned mudflats and now I'm here a few times a day!

I've posted a few comments on some of AKM's pieces and this is one of the few times I've come to the boards.  I'm computer savvy, but just haven't spent much time on these types of activities.

AKM has done a great job and it is an education reading her pieces and the comments.  Some of the links have been great and educational.  Others re-enforced my dislike for the blog medium.  I guess that goes to my independence I've developed from living in Alaska so long!

Welcome to the Mudflats Forum, Mike the Pilot & Bear Woman!

I've enjoyed reading your comments and look forward to reading more of your posts.  Now that elections are over, we in a slow process of evolving.  Members have said that they'd like to keep a focus on politics, as there is still much to be done in the country....and no less in Alaska.

We'll also be doing some book clubs, discussing the Constitution, racial issues, etc.  So hope you'll stick around and help us as we learn together.

I have been a member of this forum since the day it started and have learned so much from so many.  The comradely of members here is like no other I have found.  Someone who could truly benefit being a member here would be Governor Palin.  No seriously...She would find out, without the filter of the press, what people are saying about her and her party plus she would get a real education.

I have been to Alaska many times having had relatives in both Ketchikan (home of the non-existent bridge) and Sitka.  I believe what draws people to your state is the natural untouched beauty of the surroundings and the pioneer spirit (necessary for survival sometimes).

Thanks AKM...You have done a marvelous job here!!

Hi Mike the Pilot from San Francisco.  Greetings from Cecily.  Do you fly big planes or small?  Alaska's attraction for me has been the wildness.  My social life has improved with my discovery of Mudlfats.
