The three things I love most in this world:

1. My children

2. My Husband

3. My kittys

(I love myself but that's a given for me)   Wink

Hello, all, from Interior Alaska (heading for 40 below this weekend).  As my very first post, and I LOVE this subject (impressive minds, folks) - my one favorite thing is also three:

My best friend
My lover
My husband

39 years and holding!  I tend to lurk, and have been reading Mudflats a while (thank you, fellow DU'ers, for turning me on to this funtelligentful blog), and couldn't resist this topic!

 Cheers! Cheers!

Thank you for the warm welcome - as the temperatures continue to drop, I'll take all the warm I can get!

I'm a hit-and-miss poster, will be online for a few days then off for a week, depending on my volunteering schedule (homeless and veterans) - the colder days tend to be busier, I've noticed!  But you can be assured that this has become a favored forum with me, and I'll be around sticking my nose in!

Three places I have lived the longest:
Alaska 30 years
Utah 20 years
Hawaii 5 years

And since I am 77 years old and the above only total 55, it is obvious I have lived in many other places, namely:  Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Mississippi, New York, Germany, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Idaho, Montana, and Iowa.

Wow... Shocked

I must be slow, as I have only lived in three states:  Nebraska, Kansas (well, partially in Missouri, as we were in Kansas City), and Colorado.  Not sure I'll be able to catch up Grin

Things I'd like to learn:

to play the dulcimer
curling
speak Japanese without embarrassing myself (too much)

* Favorite.....Movies: 1) Monty Python's The Life of Brian, 2) The Big Lebowski, 3) The Fisher King.
Bands: 1) Pink Floyd, 2) Tool, 3) The Beatles (Bob Dylan a close 4th).
Books: Too many to chose from but I did my best. 1) The Collected Works of Ambrose Bierce, 2) The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe, 3) Existentialism From Dostoevsky to Sartre.

* Things I'm really good at doing: 1) Staying calm and focused in emergency/high stress situations, 3) critical/lateral  thinking, 3) used to be really good at basketball, now I'm really good at hacky sack.

* Things I'd like to learn: 1) To play the guitar or piano, 2) to juggle flaming swords while riding a unicycle, 3) a basic understanding of quantum physics (I'm getting there).

 * Hobbies: 1) Camping, 2) Hiking, 3) Fishing

 * Cars I've owned:  1) '92 Mercury Topaz (transmission replaced twice in 3 year, worst car ever!), 2) '88 Volkswagen Jetta (clutch craped out while I was doing 65 on the freeway), 3) '99 Ford Explorer (still driving it, great car except for the electrical).

* Questions I've always wanted answered: 1) Who hid the halibut on the poop deck? 2) Why can't Americans shake their puritanical roots already ferchristsake, 3) why did I ever think Tom Cruise was a good actor?

* Scariest experiences: 1) A gentleman high as a kite broke into my house at 2 AM, sat down on the couch, and refused to leave, declaring that I was in his house and I should leave. After a brief shouting match , he started to  come toward me at which point I aimed my .357 King Cobra at his chest and thought I was going to have to shoot. Thankfully, he backed off and I escorted him out of the house to be shortly arrested by the police.
                                 2) Getting T-Boned by a red light running Chevy Suburban going 55 mph. It was a miracle that no one was hurt. Their truck (with 5 guys on their way to their college graduation ceremony, caps, gowns, and all) did a complete spiral in the air and landed upside down. Silly gits.
                                 3) I got a horrible bacteria infection called Campylobacter while on vacation in Southwestern Utah. I had a high fever on and off for 3 weeks, couldn't eat anything, was erupting at both ends, and by the time it cleared up I had lost 30 pounds. I thought I was a goner for sure.

I'm biting the bullet here....and trusting y'all not to spread it around...

My 3 most embarrassing moments during business meetings:

~ Well Icy, that was truely hilarious, and brought back some memories...

So here goes:

3 favorite things:

1) Agadora (the 'butler' from The Birdcage)
2) The Book of Laughter and Forgetting
3) LUCCCCYYYYYYY!  You got some 'splanin' to do! (Lucy is my nickname)

3 reasons I'm called Lucy:

1)  My First summer job while home from college.  Simply enough, I was to spackle and touch-up paint over the nail holes in the trim for the newly installed windows on a construction job.  Unfortunately, the guy installing the windows screwed up an entire unit, and all the windows were removed, and the whole thing started over.  The occupants of the buildings were not required to move their belongings away from the windows on the 2nd go 'round, as they were on the first.  As it was crowded in this one room, I was wedged into a corner between a dresser, the bed and the wall.  My rickety ladder was just outside of my litte corner, and my gallon of paint was on the little paint thingy.
Another worked called out to me for help, and as  I turned to reply, I bumped the bed.  The gallon of paint went face down onto it, and then hit the floor.
Stunned, I quickly scanned the room for something, anything to mop it up with.  I grabbed a bottle of water instead and dumped it on the paint on the floor and continued scanning, when my eye fell upon the shop vac....
Much to my relief, it was ready to go.  I flipped the switch and began sucking up the mess...
That's when I felt the drops.
The splattering drops.
Now who the hell knew a shop vac had a reverse???
It took a few seconds for it to sink in that white paint was whorling around the entire room... I launched my entire body onto the vac, and wrestled with it a moment before it died.
About then Deb - the person who needed my help - showed up in the door way, trying very hard not to pee her pants from laughing at me.

My then boyfriend (now husband) called me Lucy for the first time. Grin

2)  Peeing in a diaper so as not to miss a flight - which I missed anyway, but that's a reallllllllllllyyyyyyy loooooooooong story.
3)  "loosing" my camera to a couple of transvite hookers at Mardi Gras.  Another long story.

Three reasons I'm grateful to my husband:

1) He loved me before
2) He love me during
3) He love me after  all of the above incidents (and many more)

And now, anyone who knows me, is sure to know my secret identity!!!

Funny cats at http://icanhascheezburger.com/

That's all three - in one.  Some of mine are in there, and are generally in lawless, indolent or really weird sets! (I have 6 - double 3's, so that fits, too!)
