Good morning everyone!

I read a comment from Shikago on an earlier thread and wanted to respond here.  The question was...what are people doing if they're logged in, but not posting here?  I think Snos has mentioned this before, but we have a screen where you can actually see what everyone is doing.

There's a box in the lower left column that posts AKM's latest blogs.  Below that, you'll se member stats...including one that says "Users Online".  Click on the title "Users Online", and it'll take you to this page where you can see if someone's reading, posting, or in the chat room:

Cool, huh?

Through out history religious zealots have caused havoc think the Salem witch trials on the small end, and the dark ages, on the large end, are well known examples but there are hundreds more, all have been incredibly destructive to culture, and society.

I think zealotry of any kind, religious/political/ideological/personal is ultimately destructive. Rational or irrational, there is not one right way to be or to act in every situation--a way that remains unchanging across time and circumstance.

It's possible to look at the inability to deal with change as a lack; something we don't do.  At the same time, if one accepts that we are animals with an inherent capacity to learn, adapt, and innovate, it is interesting what we do do, individually and collectively, to stop ourselves learning.

Forty Watt -

I took a college course with the (then) world's leading expert on animal behavior (a psych course) and his first lesson was "You CAN teach an old dog new tricks".

Yep!  Even Spanish Water dogs.  LOL

The next thing to think about is that, as a teacher, you act as a catalyst, it's the dog that must do the learning.

good day everyone,
well ol' Joe L. got a nod of approval from the dems...he keeps his chairmanship...I certainly wish that at some point in politics certain behaviors would become viewed as unacceptable  Cry

PJ - I just posted that news on the Joe L thread too. I for one am disappointed. I thought they should have taken that chairmanship away from him and let him keep the lesser ones. Not just for his betrayal, but also for his lackluster performance as chair. I mean, compare him to Waxman in the House!

pj - How true! But after all the shenanigans pulled by the Bush/Cheney team over the last 6 years, I have lost all hope for accountability and responsibilty. Let's just see what happens with those Palins in AK.

Hey all, I am back from errands and bought myself two books whose authors were suggested by muddies - one by Stieg Larsson the other by Arnaidur Indridason (saw the movie Jar City recently originally by him)  Sorry to have to ask, Deep Blue, but what award?

Jamie,

There's a thread devoted to Mudflats Awards of the Day: http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,2371.0.html

Ira2 & I both got awards yesterday - mine was for Diplomacy in the discussion regarding switching from the blog to the forum. I didn't even know about the awards, but I got a PM from Charcoal alerting me I had won.

Interesting article on the Comcast.net website this a.m.:

http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-politics/20081118/Palin/

Among the comments:

Quote
TROOPERGATE AND THE CAMPAIGN:

The episode — and the media spotlight that resulted from Palin's vice presidential nomination — drew attention to practices that simply can't be ignored.

Palin's administration routinely used private e-mail accounts for state business, circumventing public disclosure laws. "We will undoubtedly address that in some form of legislation," said Democratic Sen. Hollis French, who oversaw the Troopergate investigation.

Lawmakers also said they could hold hearings on, and possibly restrict, Palin's practice of charging the state for her children's travel and taking per diem payments for nights spent in her Wasilla home.

@ Deep Blue and Jamie,
it also saddens me greatly that all my thoughtful whining hasn't accomplished much on the Hill...perhaps I overrated my impact?  LOL

Our daily paper just had a picture of Kennedy back in DC.  He had his two Portequese Water Dogs with him.  Sorry about the spelling.

Just glad he's back.  Sorry about Joe L.  All I can hope is that they will yank that position from him the first time he steps out of line.  I mean understand about them wanting him in voting with the Dems, and since he voted with them quite a bit % wise for things other than the war, maybe that is a good thing.

My sister's children thought I let my kids get away with murder and asked my sister about it.  She mentioned that I maintained a line and when either of them stepped over that line, I came down like a ton of bricks.  Which is about right.

I hope that line has been pointed out to Joe L. and that load of bricks is ready.

I live near DC and I am ready to load my car with bricks and drive 'em on over to the Capitol.
