Okay, I just went over to the awards blog (congrats to all) that's cool.  Of course, saw a link I had to try about cakes.  It was about worst decorating cakes ever.  Some were pretty gross.  I THINK the orange cake with the thing on top?  I'm guessing a slug.

Anyhoo, that started me thinking about when my niece turned sixteen, and for some reason, someone thought my seventeen year old, ADHD, dyslexic son should do the decorating.  Notice It wasn't me!!

So we sang Happy Birthday, and out came a very pretty cake, with flowers and piping with the words. "Sweat Sixteen!"

@ Hick Town
I'm catching up reading, so this discussion is probably long past.

I'm also a "by feel" cook.  Seems we're either cooks or bakers rarely both.  My mom was also a "by feel" cook, and I've realized that it's partly by sight, partly by taste, and partly by osmosis...

For example, there's a Hungarian recipe that I fix periodically -- I pour in paprika until the onions are the right color, and it's hard to describe that color to others.  My ex used to ask for a repeat of a dinner, and I could rarely duplicate it because I hadn't paid enough attention while making it to know exactly how much of what I'd used -- especially seasonings.  And I'm a great one for looking at a recipe and then adjusting it, even the first time through.

All that said, however, the chili recipe I shared on that thread is exact. Although as I shared it, I added some comments about chili powder and the number of jalapenos.... Go figure.

I'm not sure that precision is all that important, except in baking, as long as you taste as you go.  The variation is what makes it fun.  And even with a recipe things turn out differently.  There's a holiday cookie recipe that has come down through the family.  Four of us (mom, me, my sister, and my neice) would all make it using the same recipe, and each one would be slightly different.  Must be the chemistry in our hands from shaping them.  LOL

Hmmm, well I haven't seen which towns are still open, but if I get Wasilla, I might need a personal shopper/wardrobe consultant. Oh, and someone for hair and makeup too.

Portuguese water dogs and Spanish water dogs are different breeds. The SWD has not been in the US for very long.  Although they are used as all-round working dogs they are herders in Spain.  Some SWDs are better at retrieving on land and water; some make good hunting dogs; some, like mine, are strong natural herders.

You can tell a PWD by its long tail--absent in the SWD, although frankly I don't think the breeds look that much alike anyway.

So now Jamie luv, could it have been a PWD your sweet looking BT had a run in with......?
Please tell me it might be so.  Undecided

Well, now that SP has raised Wasilla to a whole new level of prominence, I think the Mayor will need to look like a million bucks at all times. And being blindly ambitious is now part of the job description too!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I still don't know if that job is open. Can anyone tip me off to the link?

Deep Blue -

LOL you're cracking me up! I can see the blindly ambitious part, but I think our own fair Sarah forgot about the Lookin' Like a Million Bucks down there by the pool in Miami...

Oh well, I tried. But, yes, that sounds like a Spanish one to me.  Sad

Now I really have to go and run my would-never-under any-circumstances-be mean-to Jamie's Boston Terrier, sort of dog.

@Deep Blue,
Yes I'm from Dublin. Whew, you have a lot of Irish connections! I think you would make a fine mayor of Wasilla.  Wink

@ Deep Blue
You can add a town by tweaking your profile, but since you've already included your town, no need to change anythihg, unless, of course, you want to move to larger digs.

To all,
I'm on Nighthawk's computer today as mine is acting up. So the post aimed at Hick Town about cooking was from me... All better now.

Thanks for the link, Jamie, but actually I was looking for the link within the forum that allows Town Mayors to pick their town. Mer mentioned something about it on the open thread last night. I've been clicking around but I can't find anything yet.

OK, thanks, Palmdale - I guess I was just confused. I'll stick with my hometown, then - plenty big enough for me!

Just a reminder for our SoCal Muddies.  Hop on over to the Action & Events thread if you're interested in our SoCal Mudstock gathering.  It'll be on Sunday, Dec. 7.  Details in the thread.
