The Plan -

We will have a vote to choose a movie. The vote goes for 7 days. After the 7 days is up I will post a new thread announcing which movie has been picked and give you a link to the movie on The Mudflats Amazon shop. You will then have just under 2 weeks to beg, borrow, buy, or whatever you do to get a video or DVD.

The Movies -

Chocolat

A classic fable with the added bonus of Johnny Depp combined with Chocolate. The gorgeous women of this movie put in performances which are simply stunning. Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Carrie Ann Moss and Lena Olin are the particular stand outs. Click here to read about Chocolat on the Internet Movie Database.

Dead Poets Society

A true classic which will be 20 years old next year, Dead Poets Society has been an essential part of English classes in Australia for almost 20 years now. The movie has inspired a generation of people to Seize The Day. Starring Robert Sean Leonard (many years before he was on House), Ethan Hawke, and Robin Williams in one of his first non-annoying (well, my mother thinks he is annoying but she didn't think he was in this movie) and more serious roles.. it may be a while since you have seen it, now is an excellent time for a re-watch! Click here to read about Dead Poets Society on the Internet Movie Database.

The Italian Job

Who doesn't love Mark Wahlberg? Well, there's probably a few people but I'm not one of them. Don't like Marky Mark? What about Edward Norton? Jason Statham? Seth Green? Donald Sutherland? Charlize Theron is the only actress in a very male cast. This movie is kind of like a Mission Impossible style movie, only *without* the often annoying and wrinkle free Tom Cruise. Well worth watching - I really enjoyed this. Note that I did not expect to.. Smiley Click here to read about The Italian Job on the Internet Movie Database.

Groundhog Day

This is a movie that I can watch over, and over, and over again. I don't quite know why it is so compelling to me. Maybe I just love the idea of living the same day over and over. Maybe it is Bill Murray because he is really funny. I have this movie with the commentary track by director Harold Ramis and if you have not heard the commentary track you're missing out, it is a classic. Wink Click here to read about Groundhog Day on the Internet Movie Database.

Remember To Exercise Your Right To Vote!

Of course remembering in this case you're not choosing between Change and more of the same plus a whacko veep. You're just picking which movie we're gonna watch. Smiley

Oh, and this is coming from an Australian so take it for what it is worth - it is my opinion that if you have not seen the movie Groundhog Day, you are Un-American. You're probably one of those gotcha media librul types, also, too. And maybe you're palling around with terrorists. You might not even be living in the patriotic, pro-America Real America small towns. And maybe you told Congress 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that Bridge to Nowhere. You might even be a Community Organiser, with or without actual responsibilities. You may, as you read this, be trying to put lipstick on a pitbull - or a hockey mom..  Grin LOL Wink Kiss

Oh wait.. did I type all that out loud? Smiley In what respect, Charlie?

Personally, none of them ring my bell. And I am one who doesn't like Mark Wahlberg - in fact, we were just talking about that the other day! We refer to Mark Wahlberg as the actor they get when they can't get Matt Damon! And Chocolat - don't they all speak English with fake French accents?

Okay Okay! Call me a party pooper!

But I have seen Groundhog's Day about a zillion times and love it!

If you're saying this, it means you haven't seen it. Smiley It is a beautiful story and well worth seeing.. also too you will need to have some chocolate on hand and not just every day chocolate.. quality chocolate, like Lindt or something. Wink

I love Groundhog Day.

There can only be one Italian Job for me - the original with Michael Caine.

Hang on lads, I've got an idea.

Anyone of them will be fine with me. I've seen 3 of them;  They were good.

Can we suggest other movies for the future?

I am easy - I will go with whatever.

I will say this - Chocolat is based on a book, if that makes a difference to anyone. Sometimes it's fun to experience both the movie and book, to see how they compare. Of course, in this case that might backfire, since the book is almost always better than the movie.

I have read the book Chocolat, but not seen the movie. The only movie I've seen from this list is Groundhog Day, but it was a while ago and I'd be up for it again.

You live in France and you have not seen this movie? Wink Yes, they do speak in English with a French accent but it is not annoying, it is oddly charming. Wink

I have read the book and seen the movie with and without commentary track - in this case they made one large-ish change which enhanced the story and that was to add an extra character. The movie is beautiful, it isn't one of those where you read the book and then hate the movie. Wink Looks like this one is ahead in the voting at this point so we might get to talk more about that..  Smiley

I love Groundhog Day.

There can only be one Italian Job for me - the original with Michael Caine.

This version was extra good thanks to the talents of Edward Norton, though. And the mini cars! I loved that. It's worth seeing. I did not think I would like it at all, in fact I had no idea what it was going to be about. The other half wanted to see it and he borrowed it from a friend, I loved it so much I demanded we buy it on DVD. Wink

As a wise person said on the book club thread, democracy is nice and all, but it's hard to make it work in these kinds of situations.

Who's going to take charge and decree which movie it will be?    Undecided

I heard someone say 'Lindt chocolate' from three threads over, and here I am!

I've seen (and loved) them all.  Lindt will only improve whatever is chosen (especially if the truffle is to be consumed at 78*F, when the interior is juuuuuuussst on the cusp of liquifying......!)

Thanks, Ira!  Cheesy

I guess all those of us who said, "whichever" need to go back and vote?

OK - I pick Chocolat.

But I would be fine with any and could even be persuaded to change my vote!

Just don't tell my kids I'm a pushover, ok?

For God's sake, woman, show some mercy!! It's bad enough that we have a whole thread full of delicious recipes - how am I supposed to handle YOUR post on top of that, huh? Huh??

(Kidding. Sort of. Carry on... if you must. I can sit here and build character until it leaks out of my ears. Go ahead... talk about - that...  Cry )
