Totally off the current track -- this has me absolutely sick, though somehow not totally surprised:

This town is not far from Portland, in a state that voted fairly solidly for Obama. I hope the local schools take this up as a discussion point for their students, about what free speech is and isn't. I'm disgusted and embarrassed. Embarrassed

Hi guys,

Yes, Irishgirl, we got bad news ..... we did get to come home last night though. Finally was able to sleep in the same bed with hubby, first time in over a month. He has been sleeping in the recliner because he could not lay flat due to the fluid in lungs.  Anyway, we will know exact type of cancer and treatment options on Monday.  He as tumor in bronchial tube, (not caused by his smoking oddly enough). There is a remote, itsy bitsy possibility the tumor could be benign, but not likely. We'll pray and hope for that though while it's still an option.  We are actually still kinda numb about all this. I am trying to figure out how to control what I can, so I don't feel so helpless. I'll be very busy trying to learn our business, from his end, so I can keep things going while he goes through treatment. Otherwise I will have to get a real job in order to keep the house, and then won't be able to spend time with him. So I have a lot of learning to do.  I just wanted to let you guys know what was up, since I know you are concerned for me and my family. Can't tell you what everyone's words of encouragement have meant to me, I would not have been nearly as composed yesterday, had I not known how much support I have here, and taken strength from the encouragment offered here.

I must go take care of a bunch of stuff this morning, as all has been neglected for the last four days. I'll probably stay logged in here and lurk around some between chores and work. Thanks again for everything

@Tired Mom-

I am so sad to learn all of this about hubby  Cry If you ever need to "chat" just send an e-mail. Stay strong not only for yourself but for him and the kids as well. You hold it all together. We will pray and think of good things and good news.

Hugs

Oh TiredMom,
I am so sorry that it was not better news. I was praying that it would just be an infection. You and hubby are probably shell shocked at the moment and my heart goes out to you both.  Hug

Don't despair though, stay as positive as you can. The tumour may be benign or may be treatable. There is always hope even though it seems as if your life has been turned upside down at the moment. Words seem so inadequate, but you know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

 @Tired Mom,

Well, my dear you have really been hit hard.  I am so sorry and wish that I had a magic wand to make it all disappear for you.

Instead I can only offer this:    Group Hug Peace Flag

Just know that we are here and will do all that we can to get you through your toughest of times.  In the meantime...Keep hope alive in your heart.

Much love and tons of comfort,

Tired Mom-

As a cancer survivor (plus I am helping my stepmom through ovarian cancer treatment) I understand and send prayers your way.  Here are some suggestions that might help you:

1. Take someone with you to your doctor's meeting Monday- you will be too dazed/overwhelmed by all the information.  It really helps to have someone write everything down for you. (Usually that person doesn't ask any questions, just writes down everything).

2. There are all kinds of resources out there, depending on where you live and insurance- or, if none, through Medicaid/Medicare.  Take advantage of any or all- your oncologist should have a nurse/social worker assigned to you/husband, and this person can connect you with resources. My stepmom has a home care nurse, PT, and some housekeeping. Cancer support organizations provide help, too-

3.  Let family/friends/church provide assistance- I know it's hard to accept, but people really, really want to do something.  It can be meals, driving your husband to appointments/treatment, watching kids (if any at home), running errands, staying with your husband...I/my stepmom/sister (three-time survivor) found it hard to ask initially, but my philosophy is you've done many kind acts for other people during your lifetime, and now it's time to let someone respond in kind- you can help someone else later.

4. Never give up hope- Jimmy Vilano, famous basketball coach, said it best:  Never give up.  Never, never, never give up.

5. Please take care of yourself- you can't help your husband if you get run down or ill.

I hope this helps you and your husband- I don't know if you're still online, but maybe another mud pup can make sure you get this, if it might help.

Positive energy from a quiet snowy forest being sent your way in hopes of helping to calm tired,frayed nerves.  Taking care of yourself is as important as taking care of your husband.  Best wishes to you, your husband and your support network.

TiredMom--my deepest thoughts and prayers and group hugs (  Group Hug ) are headed your way, esp. in this time of family holidays.  I'll be thinking healing thoughts for you and your husband and your family as I make the Obama Sweet Potato pie on Weds. night.  Let us know if you need anything; please know that we're all here for you.
