There wasn't any ice, but the lighting made for some intriguing lines.
Going to the swamps with my cameras has been one of my favorite pastimes here. It is almost eerie at times and I have never been anywhere that quite feels the same way as the swamps. I always have one eye on the lookout for gators, but as I said before, I haven't seen one, yet.  I haven't seen snakes at the swamps, but I did run through tall grass a few yrs back and almost stepped on a rattlesnake. There was a black racer in the vicinity and I have since been told that a black racer will kill a rattlesnake. The thinking has been, it was my good luck that the black racer was there.

My cat, Mr. Boots, brought me a live black racer once.  I had no idea what type of snake it was and handled it easily all afternoon before putting it in a box and giving it to my former MIL.  (she was scared silly of snakes... <veg>)   Devil  Okay, so you get an idea of how much I really liked the woman...  LOL

Love snakes, they are so beautiful, smooth and soft.  Lovely the way they move and look.

Yeah, Deuce, a snake in the hand is an amazing feeling. I've got to say, though, that I've never held any snake that had the potential to kill me. When I lived in West Africa, as a child, there were a lot of poisonous snakes, so the rule was you touched none of them. We just didn't know, like the local people did.

But my lovely cat (who looked a lot like Alex's cat) once killed a snake under my bed. We callled her IFCAT, after the local Dutch agricultural NGO. She was a darling girl, and it was so sad to leave her behind, even though we left her in the care of a lovely Peace Corps lady. She had some beautiful kittens, too, although we never saw another cat within 10 miles.

 I Agree Dianna,
I initially thought it was black and white, then as I scrolled down I could see that it was colour.

@Mimi:  How about we give everyone 'til tomorrow midnight to post their photos?  We can set up the poll first thing on Tuesday morning for voting.

You need to decide how many photos each person can vote for, and when you want the voting to end.

Everyone should look over their photos and decide if they're the ones you want to submit.  If there's another one you want to swap in, just edit your post and replace the [img] tagged URL.

Well I'll try to get my four in before midnight tomorrow evening.  Laptop willing!   LOL

There are so many really stunning photos, it is going to be very hard to decide on just a few.

Here are some pictures of New Brunswick. I like playing with odd light, so the theme here is mostly about being in the near dark...oh... and water. I like water.

Spednic Lake on the border between New Brunswick and Maine. September 2006 I think. Top of the St. Croix Watershed. Moon rising over kayak. Number 28

Spednic Lake, same camping trip. DH does dishes. Thank god someone did. Sunset. Number 29

Outside Salisbury, New Brunswick, after a three day snowstorm in early March, 2008. Sunset. Feelin' kind of Warhol & lurid. Number 30

Christ Church Cathedral, Downtown Fredericton. April 30, 2008. Spring floodwaters cresting. That was a lot of flood. Sunset. Number 31

Oh, help - help - what are your suggestions for doing the poll - I think that closing by midnight tomorrow night is probably a good idea but I don't have any idea about how to set up the selections.

We could do it by month,  maybe - the photo that gets the most votes for January is in, for example.

OOOOHHHH- look at the moon tonight if your skys are clear - venus and jupiter in conjuction right next to the moon - portends what?

Anyway - great photos and I really am impressed with this community
