One of the networks was showing a sanitized version of Dexter.  I never saw it, but was confused as all get out - by the time you take everything out of it that you can show on network television, there ain't nothing left but opening and closing credits to watch.

CBS and Showtime have the same corporate parent; CBS was running Dexter as a way of trying to attract viewers during the writers' strike last year without having to put on another reality show.

I think they didn't have to edit that much out for language, violence, or sex, but that it was much more difficult to edit a premium cable hour (which is usually 50-55 minutes long) down to where it would fit in the slot of a network hour (which is actually about 42 minutes when you subtract all the commercials).

This sounds like such a cool show, I'm bummed that it's on Showtime, which we don't get.

The first two seasons are out on DVD and available on Netflix... Smiley

Oh thank you!  I'll be "Six Feet Under" is also available on Netflix too...
