Morning all - the light is coming on, but no sun today. 1-2" of rain today and more tonight, with 30-40 mph winds. Jeez - I might as well be back in Kodiak...  With the ground frozen, I'm not sure where all that water plans to go. But then, I  cheer up, it could have been a boat-load of blowing snow!!

G'morning Aeroentropy... quick question - do you really have ducks? I'm think of branching out from chicken in the next few years - any tips?

Is there anybody there ?  If not, I'll chat to myself.

Weather here is glorious - blue sky, no clouds, windy and cold. I don't mind dry winter days but hate it when it's damp.

Main news here is to do with yesterday's pre-Budget announcement as covered in today's Guardian - http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/nov/25/alistair-darling-pre-budget-report

Apart from the economy, this news item caught my attention (again from the Guardian).
"Members of the Women's Institute are to keep watch for sex ads in local papers that could involve trafficked women, in a crackdown that could involve the "naming and shaming" of publishers."  Full story.....

Duece, thanks for the wildlife link...just saw yesterday Barbies back to shooting wolves.... Sad
Aeroentropy, I love your duck picture! I live in So. San Francisco, and there is a town here called "Colma" and it used to be called the town of the "cemeteries" anyway they have a duck pond there and they used to have all the white ducks there, now it it is mostly ringnecks and geese, but I just love them!  I don't know what happened to the population of the white ducks here...(I shudder to think) BTW, what do ducks and geese like to eat?  Most people bring their kids and feed them bread. Or the big kids feed them bread.... Blush
Been feeding them since a kid...a long time now, would like to give them something healthy that they like...

Okay, yesterday someone asked for all of Sarah’s lies in one place and I did my best to oblige (although the rest of you mudpuppies came through with some I had missed…and we all forgot about dairygate!)

However, having a conscience (which I am sure is something that Sarah wouldn’t comprehend), I woke up last night feeling bad that I hadn’t listed all of the things she's been successful at.  So here goes nothing:

1.  runner up Miss Wasilla 1984
2.  captain of high school basketball team
3.  mayor of Wasilla had to hire an administrator to actually do the job
4.  lowered taxes in Wasilla offset lost revenue by implementing a sales tax
5.  built Wasilla Sports Complex didn’t own land and left the city $20M in debt
6.  natural gas pipeline gave a Canadian company $500M for advice, likely will never get built
7.  successfully raised a family nevermind!
8.  degree in journalism took six years, five schools and no one can remember her
9.  likes to hunt and fish
10.successfully hired lobbyists to get millions of federal $$$ oooh..wait... is that good or bad?
11.chosen by John McCain to be his vice presidential running mate

Gee, this is harder than I thought it was going to be!

So let’s see if I can summarize everything that Sarah has been successful at…

Sarah Palin is a basketball playing beauty queen that likes to kill things and just may have cost the Republican party the presidential election in 2008.

That’s just sad.  I wish I hadn’t done this now.  I’m sorry Sarah.  You really just don’t do anything very well, do you?  Second place in a beauty pageant and an election.  We call that losing here in Kansas.

Hey Aeroentropy, all your rain has come down into my front yard!  Haven't finished the post reading yet, but had to laugh.  Western MA is is wading through water.  All that frozen ground!  Now two or three inches of rain in the yard, and then it's going to get cold!

And he's gone.  I swear sometimes I'm just talking to myself. Hey Siren!  Congrats on being a mayor,

Loved the List Freakout,  and caligirl something health for ducks  and geese.  Usually see them hear eating the leavings from the corn and grain feeds.

Younger son got home (no idea when) I guess in a few hours I'll turn the heat up on that side of the house!

It's a beautiful day here in the land of Oz...25 degrees but supposed to get up to 55 later today.  Saw twenty or so wild turkey on the way to work this morning (not unusual these days...they've been very successfully re-introduced).  Anyone know what you call a group of turkeys?  I have no idea...flock, gaggle, herd...?  (And no...it's not Republicans!)

Hi Newfie & thanks.  I'm being fitted for the mayorial gowns this afternoon (in the UK we're mostly ceremonial apart from Boris - London's mayor) and then the funny tricorn hat.

Hi Freakout & Calgirl.  Loved the list of La Palina's 'achievements' (note the McCain air quotes there).  Don't know what ducks & geese eat.  Just had a cat fight here between two of the outdoor cats - Kevin (his picture to the left) and Little Rupee (another stray).  Both shot off somewhere so haven't had their lunch.
