This new thread is a companion thread to "The Economic Crisis (Part II)".

http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,4714.msg39933/topicseen.html#new

This above new thread came out of the original two month long thread "Bailing Out Mortgages On Real Estate vs Bailing Out Derivatives" which has been read over 4,000 times on the Mudflats Forum.

http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,1439.msg18099.html#msg18099

This new companion thread comes from a suggestion from Lani formerly Bash Budweiser Palin and seconded by Icy Russia Palin.

Lani wrote that we "Start a separate thread - Oversight Committee Questions, or something like that.  No commentary, just statements of concerns to send to the committee about the issues and questions to be asked.  We can build a letter that way.  Perhaps we can sticky it to the top of this section to make it easier to find.  A slight reworking of the statement below from HamsletMill could be the introduction to the new thread."

This is a reworking of what I wrote in response to her:

We will keep this new thread very terse and focused from it's origins from the information in other threads.

We can merely put Internet links under the question for the Oversight Committee and our Senators and Congressmen and the President Obama Input Site input takers to follow the links themselves that support the validity of the question.

We can also submit these question to the various Media Organizations and Talking heads to try to get them to address these questions.

This way we can convey an ocean of information by just showing the terse and focused tip of the iceberg in the razor sharp directness of the simple straight forward question!

They can run but they can't hide!

This will be a major contribution to holding a gun as citizens to these people's heads! Here's the questions. We want some answers!

So this will be our new political action plan as citizens: The Question List thread!

It is simple and direct and everyone can add to it as they think about the situation and learn more and more things about what is really going on. It allows for creativity and expansion.

Let's say that if you post a question you have to also have at least one link with it to support it with a possible fact of information or useful illuminating insight or a brief little factoid or insight you have formulated yourself.

How's that sound?

A terse and focused question with perhaps a link or insight blurb you have formulated from your own research on the Internet.

Example:

"QUESTION: How much did naked and other types of short selling play a role in the dramatic September and October 2008 Stock Market sell off where citizens have now lost 40% to 50% of their 401K life savings and many large pension funds are in danger of not being able to meet their obligations to retired Americans who faithfully contributed to these funds in their working lifetimes?"

(Perhaps put a link on recent research that shows that short selling WAS a major factor in the crash of 1929 and the chaotic volatile non-recovery up to 1932.)

Another example:

"Can the Credit Default Swaps financial WMD's be simply declared illegal by all financial markets world wide as a solution to this dire situation? Or at least limited to the actual debt instrument counterparties directly involved in the real transactions to void the involvement of all side bet speculators in these debt insurance transactions who have endangered the stability of the economies of the entire world?"

(Put in the CDS Big 5 Links listed here in many places in support of the question!)

We must force these people to face the clear question with a supporting bit of reasonable thought!

In addition, Mudflatters may also most certainly post comments and suggestions here on how we can most effectively go about political action by asking these questions to our representatives and the media.

All suggestions and insights are welcome as we explore this tactic.

And all experiences from your personal efforts with asking these questions will be most certainly welcome!

Anything about the purpose of the thread and the strategy and tactics of circulating the various economic questions to various representatives and media outlets can be fully discussed here amid the formulated questions.

But regular comments on economic issues not specific to the intellectual political action purpose of this thread should be posted on one of the other regular economic discussion threads.

This will be a very focused thread for one purpose and one purpose only: asking very focused economic questions from our representatives and the media.

Anyone is free to further comment here on the evolving purpose and use of this thread in the days ahead.

We have time to think up questions and discuss this for some time in early January. Everyone take a breath, read the threads that have lead to this thread to educate yourself and formulate your own questions. Feel free to just formulate a personal question you want answered by or representatives and media and post it here for further clarification and discussion if that will help you. Everyone should post a letter they have sent here for others to study that they may want to reformulate into their own words and send out also.

Over the next three weeks I will formulate some questions in various format examples and write an example letter.

OK? That's pretty much the concept! Everyone got the general evolving idea?

But please enjoy the Holidays! We have plenty of time to bring this up slowly. We already have accomplished a lot of research here to study, discuss further, and muse about as we formulate these hard direct questions to ask as we unleash this wave of thought on the Oversight Committee, our elected Representatives, and the Corporate MSM in the first of the year as the new Obama Administration takes office.

Rest up for now.

This is all now in place ready to launch.  It has been a long four months since P-Day. We have been through a lot. But this worldwide community of intelligent people has now miraculously formed out of the Cosmic Near Death Experience we all went through.

Get ready for our future actions.

These Links Are For Strategic Intellectual Political Activism in the Internet Age with the First Internet Accessible Administration by Putting Some Very Hard Economic Questions to People Who Are Supposed to Know What They Are Doing...But Obviously Don't So Far!

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES

President Elect Obama's Citizens Ideas and Suggestions Input Site
http://www.change.gov

Paul Volker, Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers, and Timothy Geithner had better do their homework because we are going to do ours. Here is your first background briefing on the people we will be taking to account as Citizen Economists with Phd.'s in actually having a job in the real world and going to work every day where we have to actually do something useful in society. We are their ultimate bosses and they answer to us and we are going to be fair but entirely ruthless in our questions because our livelihoods and the futures of our children and grandchildren are at stake. We want truthful answers. And we want truthful answers NOW.

Change.gov has already started discussion here so we can see what has happened already as we formulate our input strategy.

Every one should read this link on Change.gov for communication format insights as we start to formulate our comments for our input strategy.

If these people are NOT going to do their jobs we are going to do their jobs for them and we are eventually going to collect their pay and the pay of their administrative staffs in a class action law suit for doing their work for them.

(BTW my sincere thanks to the Conservative Caucus for this above handy link for us in our very uncomfortable economic questions onslaught! Check out their Home Page for us to keep tabs on what they are saying about President Obama in the days ahead! Also check out the links to all the major Conservative Talk Radio shows!

http://www.conservativeusa.org/megalink.htm#talkshows

Let's hit these Conservative Talk Radio Shows with some very hard and very ideologically uncomfortable economic questions since it was a Republican Administration that unleashed the new ideology of unleashing the Bailout Federal Reserve Printing Presses running around the clock to create the New People's Republic of Wall Street for the Big Bankers!)

Timeline of the Economic Disaster

I am placing this excellent link here for handy reference as we start to write our e-mails to our elected representatives and the media from the future very uncomfortable and disturbing questions to be formulated on this thread.

I thought there is a nice arc on these two:

Quote
May 17, 2007: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said growing number of mortgage defaults will not seriously harm the U.S. economy.

17 months later...

Quote
Oct. 23, 2008: Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan appears before the House Oversight Committee and says the financial meltdown -- a "once-in-a-century credit tsunami" -- has revealed a flaw in a lifetime of economic thinking, leaving him in a "state of shocked disbelief."

Reported on this same day, the number of homeowners ensnared in the foreclosure crisis grew by more than 70 percent in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2007, while new claims for jobless benefits increased by more than expected.

These people had no f****** idea whatsoever what they were doing!

We will be referring to this timeline often as an example of the mind bending incompetence of the Masters of the Universe Ruling Financial Elite as we write our e-mail questions to see if  their supervisors - our elected representatives - and  their supervisors - our corporate media geniuses - know anything now?

We the people are now the judge, jury, and executioners. It is now Paris 1792 all over again! Get the Internet guillotines ready for the ruling class. Our questions are not going to be pretty in continuous "people's hearings" 24/7/365 in cyberspace.

But, then again, maybe Dylan said it better.

The cloudy eyes of the old man stare sightlessly down the track as the seesaw handle rises and falls through frame.

...I cannot say how long this road shall
be. But fear not the obstacles in your
path, for Fate has vouchsafed your reward.
And though the road may wind, and yea,
your hearts grow weary, still shall ye
foller the way, even unto your salvation.

I do not believe for one second that these people didn't know exactly what they were doing which was to make their kazillions of dollars at any cost.

Hopefully, as the bailouts continue people will begin to wake up to the monster that has been created.  Every day that a new bailout is announced another round of people find themselves without jobs or out on the street.

And it hasn't ended yet - here is an eye-opening article on the current manipulation of the gold markets.
