The Green Mile - Book Club #2
«

In order to make sure everyone can get ahold of the book in time, I am announcing this very early.
Book Club #2 is The Green Mile by Stephen King.
You can purchase the book via AKMuckraker's Amazon shop if you like.
We will start the book sometime in the first week of January, so you might want to add it to your Christmas Gift list.
Be aware that Stephen King is considered a horror writer, if you have not read his books before that may come to you as a surprise. The summary on Amazon says -
Quote
Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.
We will also be watching the movie after we have finished reading the book, you can do just the book or just the movie if you like. For those who do both we will discuss differences between the book and the movie, and also whether the movie fits the picture you got in your head when you read the book if you had not seen the movie previously.
You can also purchase the movie via AKMuckraker's Amazon shop if you like.
The movie was directed by Frank Darabont, who also directed The Shawshank Redemption which was another Stephen King story. The movie which I link to above is the 2 disc version of the movie which contains the commentary track by Frank Darabont.
(If you haven't noticed yet, Snoskred is quite the fan of commentary tracks)

Not much of a fan of Stephen King writings but loved the movie - read half of the book and find it way to wordy for my taste but then saw the movie and was very very impressed.

Hey Guys,
We're going to be kicking this off in the next few days. So who is in? As I am moderating the book club, it will be a fair bit more active than the previous one - do you guys want to give me an idea of how many chapters you might be ok reading per day?
I've just been re-reading the book over the last couple of nights in preparation. I love that the book and the movie are not exactly the same as each other. As I was reading through I was recognising things that Stephen King has used in other books, so we'll keep an eye out for that along the way as well.
I can't wait for ya'all to get acquainted with these great characters..
