I couldn't resist sharing that photo...it's been around for a while, but it makes me giggle everytime I see it.

My Thanksgiving was just ducky!  We went to a Brunch around 11 AM and had lovely frittatas and sausage and stuff.  Then we went home and took a lovely nap while watching Miracle on 34th Street.   Natalie Wood was such a cute little girl.  It was a group of progressives at the brunch.  Everyone there is so happy with our President elect.  And of course we are all disgusted by SWSNBN.  We're all hoping that our elected representatives will do what is right and follow up on troopergate.

Then I made homemade Pizza - our Thanksgiving tradition.  Scratch crust, homemade sauce, the whole nine yards.  It was yummo.  We will have friends over on Saturday and that is when I will cook the actual turkey and all the other stuff.

I hope everyone had a lovely day - even if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving today!

Good morning and hope everyone (who celebrates it) had a great Thanksgiving Day - whether it was Turkey or Lobster or Pizza!

forgive my late post....

If you can, contact her doctor and then a hospice near where your aunt is.  Her not eating may be a sign of some illness.  Or it may be that her age, other disease processes or her brain is reaching the end.  If nothing else, both the doc and hospice can help make her comfortable and ease your worries.  May she be well....

Thank you Bear Woman.   Yesterday, she did manage to eat a complete meal and she enjoyed it - we also made certain that she took all her tablets (including antibiotics for a chest infection).  She's currently visited twice a day by Care Workers but they are not allowed to give her her meds - so annoying.   The Social Worker agrees that this is a gap in the overall Care Package which is an ongoing issue between the Local Authority & Local Health Service and he is as just as frustrated by the situation.  One of my tasks today, is to make my comments known by letter and e-mail to all parties.  I'm also trying to arrange a so-called emergency respite - admission to a home or hospital where her meals and meds can be regulated.

My husband, mother & I spent much of yesterday sorting through huge piles of mail to identify things like her bank statements etc.  so that we could gather the relevant information ready for a Financial Assessment to determine whether or not she has to pay for her Care Package (looks like she doesn't).  During the course of this we discovered that she had been conned out of about £8000 by a band of rogue traders who had 'tarmacced' her drive (1/2" thick with weeds already poking through).  Her neighbours had told us about this shortly after it had happened, but they, the Police and we were under the impression that they had scammed £1450 from her.  Yesterday, I discovered entries on her statement for £1350 and £5000 - all within a three day period.

I've updated the Police - they told me that gang involved were caught red-handed pulling the same scam on another elderly woman.   However, as they get the victims to cash personal cheques and give them the money there is very little that can be done about getting her money back.

I'm not religious but in this instance I hope hell does exist and that there is a special area for such conmen who prey on vulnerable, elderly people.  Or that karma hits them for six.

 On my soapbox

Sorry for the rant....

That is just awful. I hope a hell exists for that type of scum too.  Angry

Hello girls!

sirenoftitan I missed the beginning of the story but it is truly awful. You often read about these things but never reall think it happens. I hope they can and will be held accountable for these crimes! I think they should be forced to live and work in an old age/nursing home for one year - or until they pay back what they owe people - so they feel the plight of these poor elderly people.

Yeah, it is quiet. Everyone is probably feeling the after effects of Thanksgiving.  Smiley I'm trying to catch up on a bit of housework!

Sirenoftitan,
Thank you for sharing about your experiences yesterday. I spent many hours at an assisted living/skilled nursing center yesterday, dealing with care problems (mother- and father-in-law). Medicines, bathing schedule, diet concerns - put that together with evolving medical situations and personnel problems - all I can say is that it is a Thanksgiving to remember, and not in a good way. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to hear about the thieves - it sounds like the 'gypsy' scam artists (now usually called 'Travelers' or Travellers')  referenced in the article below. These groups prey on the elderly. http://www.allaboutstuff.com/General/Outwitting_Gypsy_Home_Repair_And_Home_Improvement_Hustlers.asp

Hi Jamie !

Reckon you're both right - must be sleeping off all that turkey and trimmings.

At least it's Friday - get a bit of a lie-in tomorrow.

There's more Rugby tomorrow - Wales vs the Aussies.  Can I bear to watch ?

MizKay - that certainly sounds like a lousy Thanksgiving.  My thoughts are with you also.

Yep, the Police told me they were Irish gypsies - the leader owns three properties in West Wales.  They can only prosecute them via the UK's Trading Standards arm in cases like this where there are no witnesses apart from the victim who can't remember.  Her neighbour did manage to catch them on his CCTV which he'd installed to keep an eye on building materials but the footage isn't sharp enough to make out their features and the Police reckon that will cause a jury difficulty in identification.  It's a real problem for all Local Authorities & Police in the UK and from your link it appears it's a larger issue.

I'm getting some advice next week on how to obtain Power of Attorney over my aunt's financial affairs and understand from the local Alzheimers Society representative that the legal document is difficult to complete correctly - even lawyers have their submissions rejected !

Can anyone tell me what happened to the Portland Oregon woman who was on here as TeachKids and whose son rigged up the Obama Sign Watch?
I never heard exactly why they had to suddenly pull the plug on the signwatch - was the family threatened? Or was their location made public, and were they besieged by press? I was wondering if she ever posted again at Mudflats, maybe under a new name?

Morning, all. Had a couple of great chats last night in the chatroom. (That sounds kind of dumb, now that I see it!) So, thanks to any here now who did such a good job of entertaining me then!
