Please note before posting photos:

Photos are welcome in posts, but please post only photos you have a legal right to - generally those you own yourself, or those clearly in the public domain or registered though Creative Commons. Other photos (or if you're not certain if they're OK) should be left as URL links

Images you post on the Forum must be first uploaded to the internet.

If you have a photo or image on your hard drive that you'd like to share with Forum members, you can join one of the multitudes of websites that allow you to upload photos and create "albums".  This is the one most members use:

http://www.photobucket.com

Once you've registered for a free account with photobucket, upload your images.  Each image will be given its own web address.

After uploading your photo, look under the image for a list of URL's.  They will be in a box, with several to choose from.  Select the one that starts with the [ img ] tag.  Copy the entire address by double clicking it, and paste it into your post as is.

Since the URL comes with the [ img ] tag already, you will not need to click on the "Image" button.

The image will show up once you hit the "save", or "preview" button in your post.

If the image is too large, you can go back to photobucket to "re-size" the image.  300 - 400 pixels in width works well.

Hey Pat....

Have you uploaded the photos to Photobucket yet?

If you have, there will be a box under each photo giving the URL you should use.  They provide 4...but the one you need is the 4th one, and it'll look something like this:

[ img ]http://xxxxxxxxx[ /img]

Just copy the whole URL, then go to the thread you want, click on "Reply", and paste the URL in the comment box.

To check the image, click on "Preview", and you should be able to see it.

You can also add comments either above or below the pasted URL.

Does this help?  If not....leave another note, and I'll come right back!

Pat...no worries.  We're all trying to get accustomed to not having the "Recent Posts" box.

If you're looking for the SoCal Mudstock thread, it's posted in the Events & Meets board:

http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,4804.msg41524/boardseen.html#new

You'll find most of our other photo threads in the Clubs and Shared Experiences board.  Just click on the board name, and you'll see all the topics.  The ones with the most recent comments will show up on the first page.

Can't wait to see the photos!

Just checking whether it is possible to upload slideshows or power point slideshows.  I just got an absolutely incredible one sent my way and I would love to share.

NOTE:  I already figured out the slideshow...is there a way to upload files like a powerpoint.  I don't seem to find an upload files link.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but would these be the same instructions for uploading a picture/avatar for your profile?

THANKS!

To add an avatar you must go to edit your profile (directions). Avatars must be smaller than 100x100  to be posted and can not be animated you can upload directly from your computer you don't need to have a host site for your avatar but you do for other pictures you wish to use on the forums.

Thanks Charcoal Sniper P.  I knew the size was the issues but couldn't seem to get it small enough!

I have GOT to get this Photobucket thingie sorted out.
I've been taking loads of photos. However, sorting out Photobucket is the least of my probs right now.
Last week my PC literally fried itself (hoping the two hard drives are still salvageable; there's 10 years of stuff there). The prob is that I had a couple of really nice photo-editing programs that I loved. Right now I'm only on the Mac with it's silly iPhoto software. I did download open source Seashore last night. Not as flexible as I'm used to but it will do for now.
Any other Mac users out there who have photo editing software they like that is not PhotoShop?

I've just been on a Mac for about a year, and though I love most of it I really dislike iPhoto too!!! I have briefly played with Aperture and quite liked it, but it is so expensive. So . . . if there is anyone else out there with more suggestions I, too, would love to hear!

thanks NM!
Seashore is a free open source which is way superior to iPhoto but still has some downsides (well, PhotosShop like features I miss).
Admins, if I'm posting this query/discussion in the wrong area, let me know where to place it appropriately. I'm just frustrated with this Mac software.

Have you tried picasa?  They now have a Mac version you can download for free, I think.  Love my Mac, dislike iPhoto- intensely.  I have a Kodak digital camera, and I have used its software, but I like picasa better.  Take note:  I'm a neophyte at the editing business...

Thanks to both of you for the tips, I will check into both programs. In some ways I am glad to be reminded that Macs are perfect, but you'd think they get the photo app down if anything!

Just a bit of clarification for mac users using iPhoto.

iPhoto is a photo management tool, not a photo editing tool. Yes, you can crop, adjust colors and levels, and it has some amazing tools for red-eye and some types of "blemishes"... But it's no photoshop. It's not *meant* to be photoshop. It's designed to help you organize/sort your photos. (The templates for calendars, cards, and books are pretty kick-ass, too.)

For *editing* photos, Seashore has been mentioned. It's free and decent, but limited. If you want the "power of photoshop" without the huge photoshop price tag, look into Photoshop Elements.

For more advanced users you might want to look at Gimp.

For mac folks on recent hardware (or the recent version of iLife/iPhoto) there is very nice integration with flickr which is a nice alternative to photobucket.

Yes. I'm a total mac geek. Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks akpetdad. I, too have a mac and am learning the iphoto feature. My kids are mac geeks also but alas, never seem to be home when I need advice. Thanks for your offer. I is it possible to use a photo I have as an avatar? This is more for a learning experience than a necessity! Thanks.

There is an instruction thread around somewhere on how to load an avatar photo (for which you don't seem to need to have it saved on the internet).  Ah, here it is:  http://www.themudflats.net/forum/index.php/topic,13.0.html

I'm having the same problems. They look ok on the preview, but when you post them, they are huge.
