@The Problem Child,
Yes, I'm still up, it is 4.00 in the afternoon here. And yes, I did get it all done!  Shocked Not before lunch though. However, I have only one door varnished and six more to go!! If I can manage to do one a day, I'll be finished by next week.

So Harper has asked that Canada's parliament be shut down for six weeks rather than face a vote of confidence on the controversial budget he had prepared. He will use this time to make a new budget so full of bribes that anyone opposing it will be taking food from babies' mouths, and electioneering in an undeclared election. We don't know whether the Governor General limited his power during this period or if he can go ahead and appoint Senators, etc.

Meanwhile he gets to say that the coallition is trying to steal the country against the will of the people (He got 38% of the vote last month, in an election where only 59% voted.)
Good article on Canadian politics from a leftish newspapaer.
http://www.straight.com/article-166197/stephen-harper-22percent-prime-minister

He is also raving that by allying with the Bloc Quebois the two English Canada opposition parties are betraying Canadian federalism. But his calling the Bloc separatists is OK, of course.

Hey, for the past 3 elections I have watched the leaders debate and thought,"I wanna vote for the Bloc!" They are the sanest, and on social issues the most practical and liberal- especially for women since the church lost its grip on Quebec politics. (Aslo the best looking.)But they only run candidates in Quebec.  I wonder if BC can join Quebec?

Hi Kate from Canada!  Welcome
Thanks for that link; I'm going to re-post it on the Dion for PM? thread over in the General Political Chat forum. You might want to check it out!

AKM, You have some lovely photos on Flicker. I have an EOS 30D, and would love to get a zoom lens for it. Another 700 or so euro. They are expensive but i feel  bereft without it. You just are limited without a zoom. Oh well, Christmas it coming and you never know.  Smiley

 When Palin lists all the travel expenses she "forgot' does she have to reimburse the state of are they all considered income, beyond her basic salary, or does she just get away with the freebies like she has the clothes?

I fear that the only hurt will come from the IRS.  Unfortunately witness tampering on a state level is under state law and it seems unlikely the Alaskan AG will follow up.  The legislature has blinked on the ethics issues.  Wonder what the statute of limitations is though.

Don't forget brain gate.

Other than massive cheating (which wouldn't surprise me, if true) how did Bush and Palin every graduate college?  Neither one could pass a short answer test much less an essay test, term paper, or even if someone else wrote it, present a seminar.
And neither one can do math or understand basic legal principles.

@Marnie,
Don't forget the IRS brought down Al Capone!

My understanding is that she would have to declare those travel gifts as income in some way...which she obviously didn't.  Nor the cowboy boots.  So, something may come of that.

Also, if she and Todd perjured themselves in the deposition to Timothy Petumenos (Personnel Board), they did so in St. Louis, making it federal.

The AG will do nothing about anything in the state.  Of that we are certain.

Have you checked out the Alaskans for Truth site?

http://alaskansfortruth.blogspot.com

They have a call to action that focuses on the things that need to bring pressure on the Legislature.  Plus they are raising $ to take out ads across the state before the Legislative session begins.  Should be good... :smiley:

Oh, and I love Brain-Gate!   LOL
