Happy Solstice, Mudflatters!
The darkness whose steady march has overtaken our fair state, has begun to recede, and the light is returning!
There is still a long way to go before I get up in the light, or leave work in the light, but just knowing that we have passed this milestone of the year is a psychological boost.
And what a week it has been. Cowdery pleading guilty, Sherry Johnston busted for dealing Oxycontin, and now a DoJ official closely tied to the Stevens trial is a whilstleblower, pointing a finger at transgressions made by the prosecution in the Stevens trial.
Don't these people ever take any time off for the holidays?
I mean, Come On!!

Oh WOW it is! Thankyou and the same to you, Happy Solstice!
My father claims we got it all wrong. First we left the sea (Big mistake), then we won't hibernate... It's unnatural to get up before there is light and come home way after dark, possibly in terrible, dangerous weather conditions. If we are in places like Alaska (and sometimes in Germany this is applicable too) we should introduce the idea of hibernating humans.
And why not?
Happy Solstice all around
(talking about sun I wrote a post about sun here
http://lettersfromgermany.wordpress.com/2008/12/20/what-i-found-on-the-feldberg/
. I'd be particularly happy to hear from mudflatters in comments.)
Thanks

I'm still stunned and sitting on the floor after reading your post about the Dept of Justice whistleblower.
You really can't make this stuff up, not unless mentally you have entered another universe or are really really in some type of altered reality. Then maybe you could.
Unless this is like some big Twilight Zone episode, and we are all the tiny people in someone's pet human exhibit, and the pet owners are playing SimAlaska.
(We could always add to the
List of Sim Games
).

Does Barbies silence speak volumes here? Are we going to hear another statement, "this is not a government issue, so no comment"? My guess she is anxiously awaiting for her axe to fall....not to mention Bristols baby....
Merry Solstice, return of the light to you!

Hehehe... maybe it's a celestial conspiracy, the nap thing. I'm just up from mine. (It was very exciting, yes
)

Had friends whose parents were married on the winter solstice. I asked, now, why would you want to marry on the shortest day.... ah.... longest night!!!

Can we hope for that in respect to Palin and Alaska too?
I just read the latest blog post, and I really, really hope that somehow, in some miraculous way, things can only get better
It sure doesn't look like it though. What a piece of work this woman is.

Another Happy Solstice greeting to all-
Today is the last of my family's birthdays: mine is the 7th, my niece's the 14th, and my stepmom's is today. (some kind of coincidence, eh?)
I will keep an eye on the Alaskan doings from afar: I hadn't heard about the DOJ whistleblower, AKM; will the trial implode before our eyes? I was soooo looking forward to Steven's sentencing

Nice Coincidence CO Almost Native! Love that lucky number 7! We get bombarded with Birthdays and such (my aniversary tomorrow
) this time of year as well. We actually won't be done until mid January.

The BBC was running this story all day Sunday on its 24 hour news channel
Quote
Villagers in Alaska are having to move their entire community before it is washed away, due to the effects of climate change.
The permafrost under Newtok in the Yukon Delta is melting, leaving the village at risk from the swollen river.

On another sombre note, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the Lockerbie disaster.
Quote
It was a cold, sombre and restrained event held to mark the night 20 years ago when a terrorist bomb destroyed an airliner flying 259 people home for Christmas, and devastated the unassuming Scottish town of Lockerbie.
In a graveyard scoured by wind on the outskirts of the town, about 350 relatives were joined yesterday by local politicians, ambulance workers, police officers, and mountain rescue team members, to commemorate the moment that Pan Am flight 103 blew up 31,000ft overhead.

Well Happy Belated Birthday, CO Almost Native~
My family is a seven family too, dad on 7, me on 14, sis on 21 and mom on 28 all in June and July, everybody is Gemini, except me I'm the Cancer oddly enough and my sis is between the two, but is more Gemini personality.
Thanks by the way for all the cards, Kenny just loves you!
And for all my other mudpuppie friends, who have been so sweet, encouraging, and supportive, thank you again and again! Kenny's chemo was put off til the 29th due to kidney function being at only 20% we have gotten it back up a little after getting rid of some meds he was on. Going to do bloodwork now to see if the trend is continuing. He has truly enjoyed all of the cards everyone is sending. And is amazed daily at the kindness and generosity of Mudpuppies everywhere!
