I don't know if this was really worth commenting on - but there is a list on Huff Post - Nontroversial stories of 2008  - which lists Troopergate as a non controversy - A portion of my comment as follows.

"As for Sarah Palin, you miss the point entirely. She was accused of misusing her power as governor to interfere with the personnel process within the Alaska State Patrol. Her husband evidently followed his former brother-in-law around trying to 'get' something on him in order to make him lose his job.

In coverage of Sarah Palin, the press across the country has done a disservice to Alaska - either making fun of her for things that insulted most Alaskans, or completely ignoring her very real weaknesses as a governor in lieu of Entertainment Tonight or Enquirer type coverage of her personal foibles, family problems and wardrobe expenditures. Most people never had a chance to see what her real strengths and many weaknesses are when it comes to governing. Thanks to this glaring omission she is still considered by some to be a potential future contender for a national office."

Great reply.... I think what hurt was so many people concentrated too much on Micheal Wooten and not on Sarah..of course that was what she wanted. I always tried to turn it by saying that no one said he was blameless, but he had been punished for his so called crimes now it was her turn to be held accountable. But it was hard for anyone to get past the taser incident.

That's what makes it so difficult I think.

I noticed today when reading a story on the ABC site, that there is a place to leave news tips. I listed a few Alaska issues that have been neglected and asked them to consider covering them. This was following a story on Palin's analysis (?!?) of her experience with the media. I said - Yes, please consider her record, and listed some Alaska issues that have been under discussion: the overly optimistic budget, the lack of an energy plan which was supposed to be 'rolled out' in December, some rural issues, etc.

This is not a comments section. It says "if you have other information about this story" leave information. You do need to leave contact information, so it is not a place for anonymous contributions.

It might be worth looking for similar places to input on other sites.

Listed a few things on my blog that have been discussed here and in our forum if you need an idea or two.

Hey folks - if you are still looking for ideas to pass on to reporters or for comments - You might be interested in making sure that people know that there were several warnings given to Palin and state government about rural problems - The letter from Walt Monegan in July is one, others include a letter to Palin in September from former Mayor (now Senator) Mark Begich and the Superintendent of Anchorage schools Carol Comeau asking for an emergency task force because of a larger than usual influx of families coming from rural communites into the city, also the Alaska Federation of Natives asked for a state of emergency to be declared for rural Alaska way back in October. Just a little info to share.

Hey folks - This one is worth the time - let's take a minute (if you haven't already) to inform the MSM folks that they have got the story all wrong about Palin's 'foe' being rewarded by the Obama administration. I think most of you who have been following events know several relevant facts:

 - We know that the so-called Troopergate investigation was in process weeks before Palin was chosen as McCain's running mate.
-  We know that there was no particular antagonism between the governor and the state legislator before her partisan comments on the campaign trail.
- The investigation was voted on by both Republicans and Democrats in the Alaska State Legislature.
- One could make the argument that Palin herself invited the investigation as she asked to be held accountable for her actions.
- The resistance to the investigation on Palin's part only became a factor after she was on the ticket with McCain.

Just a few things that might be helpful, you can probably add to the list. And I reiterate, please help deter this nonsense about a Palin 'foe' being rewarded - nonsense.

I am dredging up this old thread to see if we can help correct a 'misrpresentation' of Obama's comments during the campaign when he said his family should be 'off limits'. As AKM so clearly states in the Huff Post article and the post on Mudflats, Obama was clearly referring to the Palin family. He was not trying to protect his family. I just finished reading two articles that repeated Palin's misrepresentation of his comments with no comment or correction. This kind of nonsense by Palin is one of her Achilles Heels - plus it is just dishonest to keep saying something that is such a distortion of the truth. If you see articles that fail to correct her statement, especially when it is included as part of the text, please take a minute to email the writer of the article requesting a correction. It may not be seen by the writer if it is only in the comments.

One doesn't have to be of one political stripe or the other to advocate for accuracy in reporting. Her misrepresentation of facts is her fatal flaw. Addressing her misrepresentation of facts calmly and consistently will go a long way to shining a light on other issues. It may not happen overnight, but it will make a difference. Water on the stone.

The problem is that most of this stuff just disappears into history.

One thing, though, is that it doesn't yet seem to have occurred to many of the politicians that their old stuff is readily accessible with the Intertubes today. Palin isn't the only politician guilty of this. Many TV pundits are also guilty of the same thing. I think Jon Stewart is one of the best at pointing this out brilliantly. KO does a pretty good job, too.

Actually, Oberman missed it, too. So bringing it to more people's attention is what will make the difference. The media isn't more careful, because no one seems to notice, that is where we can make the difference!
