Tiptoeing Through the Muck...

« on: December 27, 2008, 03:42:36 am »

New Year's Eve is here.

How will you usher in the New Year?  I've always been a "low key" person on this particular holiday.  Nothing like some good old introspection to make me happy when the calendar flips over.

Tomorrow at this time, we can say we did it.  We survived 2008.

Good night all!

We had the BEST party today ~ a brunch from 10-2 (actually last ones left at 3)...  I really didn't know it would turn out to be so multi-cultural!   There was my Swedish friend and her mother,  a couple mongrels like myself 1/4 Irish 1/4 Norwegian), my enrolled N.Cheyenne DH, a Taiwanese friend + 3 young daughters, neighbor teachers +3 young daughters w/ grandmother, 2 African-Americans, 1 Gernan artist, 1 Apache woman + her Scotch/Irish husband,  a Paiute/Anglo  ~~ we ate and ate and ate and quenched our thirsts.     I wore my new YES, WE DID shirt......

Hello everyone....it has been a while  Wink

I have been reading the blog daily.

I hope everyone had a Happy Christmas.

It is New Year's Eve here in Melbourne, Australia. Hubby and me do not have a good history of going out to see the New Year in. We prefer to stay at home, have a really nice meal and a good glass or two together.

Saying that...we have celebrated New Years Eve in some amazing places and love to reflect.

I grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe so will count the times we celebrated by candle light as the heavy rains and electrical storms blew the lights out. These events were usually held in someone's tobacco barn or as I got older I was allowed to attend the annual dance at the country club under the watchful eye of my father. LOL Sometimes it rained so hard we all had to sleep the night in the back of the truck for fear of being stuck in the mud overnight in the middle of nowwhere. As a little girl this was truly exciting.

Then the places... the Zambezi Valley, Zimbabwe Ruins (spooky) Harare, The Vumba Highlands (Zimbabwe) Lake Malawi, a Zambian farm, London, Scotland, Cape Town, Johannesburg, the Lesotho Mountains, Perth (Australia)The Nullabor (Australia) Melbourne (Australia)

....all of you ??? I'd love to hear where you have all celebrated New Years.

Happy New Year everyone !

It is also New Years Eve here on the South Coast of New South Wales. Which is not surprising seeing Melbourne is in the same time zone Wink

We also do not go out and party, we just have a quiet one at home. As quiet as it can be with every nitwit in the neighbourhood setting off firecrackers, and apparently a minor spider invasion of my house involving a lot of screaming on my part, and cats hunting them down trying to squish them, and stuff..

There are things I like about the warmer days (of which we have had maybe three now, this is supposed to be summer) but the spiders getting out and about is NOT one of them.

hey Jamie, Happy New Year!

I wish you much success in 2009. I will look for your cooking show on TV. Wink

Maybe we'll meet again on another site, but if we don't - it was nice knowing you.

Blwyddyn Newydd Da i phob un!   reindeer

Happy New Year to all (we've got about 9 hours to go).

We'll be seeing in the New Year at home with the family and a bottle of champagne.  It's forecast to be a very cold night so should be good for any fireworlks parties being held (I prefer to watch them from inside).

Nice thing about celebrating the Chinese New Year is that if I don't get started on my resolutions on 1/1....I have another chance.  This coming year of the Ox will be celebrated on 1/26/2009.   Yay!  3 weeks of procrastination!

Much Happiness in the New Year to all!
