Great!  Education is important.  It's important for him, his girlfriend, and the child that they've brought into the world.  WHy lower the bar for the family?

Slope jobs are like crack in Alaska -- so many people getting these jobs thru nepotism/cronyism and disdaining education because they can, because they can earn more each year than a teacher, engineer, even doctor.

As part of a couple who went to college to get our jobs -- working at the same time -- I am not cutting some kid who jumped the waitlist & circumvented requirements any slack.  He should not have taken the job to begin with.  If his father got him the job he should have been a better parent and encouraged his son to stay in school, get an education, and jump thru the hoops that everyone else has to jump thru.

Parenting obviously wasn't/isn't a priority with that crowd.

I love how SP makes it ALL about HER.  And never mind the fact that the law was being broken or that maybe this kid SHOULD finish school first.  The funny thing is that if she had not made a big deal out of the kids not being high school drop outs in the first place no one might have thought to look at this whole thing.  Almost have to wonder if Bristol is staying with Grandma and Grandpa because she wants away from Mommy Dearest

And when their bodies break down they have nothing, while injured teachers, engineers, and doctors can still plow ahead.

As a retired educator, I second your points. At some time in the future, most jobs will go away, morph into something else, require more indepth understanding...something.  To me, a high school diploma/GED is the minimum amount of education needed.  College isn't the answer for everyone, but  technical training , community college, etc. is needed to get ahead.

I would like to smack his father up side the head with a 2x4, and yell "Wake Up!! Help your kid prepare for the future!" (I don't think his mom has the wherewithall right now to be any assistance.)

my understanding is working the slope in winter time pays enormo money and are highly desired.
i dont begrudge this kid that.
nor his dad for working him a slot...parents do that when they can, lets face it.
...mine did.

what is stunning once again is that SP brought this whole mess on.
from beginning to now....She did this.
..she drew all these people in her web....her havoc....her secret keeping...
Her family hooey.
no one has any reason to think it will stop...

Hmmm....any news about wedding plans for the young'uns?

They were supposed to get married in June 2009.  I wonder why they are waiting.  The baby is here now, if Bristol was worried about walking down the aisle pregnant.  Actually, why weren't they married before Bristol started to show?

I think before Sarah Palin was selected as McCain's running mate, there were no plans for Bristol and Levi to ever get married.  I think Sarah disapproves of Levi and his family.  This whole thing is just a little monster they created (not meaning Tripp), that they can no longer control.

And does Levi have to pay child support for Tripp until he marries Bristol?  Now that Levi is unemployed I guess he's off the hook for that expense.

Levi Johnston quits oil field job
Levi Johnston, the teenager planning to marry Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter, has quit his oil field job over questions about his eligibility to participate in an apprenticeship program.

SP has a reputation for...retribution.
That was clearly heard early on.

Today SJ went to her moved up court date.

Last week SP makes a off-the-wall comment about these kids and the workin their butts off while taking HS classes.
She said that, out loud, so it would be published.
It then becomes a big eye opener.
...Huh?...Levi doesnt have a HS diploma, does he...people start to realize, and then wonder over.

SP et al have smacked both Johnstons.
Is SP sending warnings to the Johnstons?
...are we witnessing SP's type of retribution??
...it has quickly become a he said she said debacle again, quite SPs M.O....

Good point, Mustang.

Sarah's influence on the Johnston family has been devastating to say the least.

SP is the one who threw Levi under the bus.
....no one else had noticed or realized anything amiss til she opened her pie-hole.

SP does this kinda crap, doesnt she...
...retribution covered in syrup....

Sarah said she had nothing to do with getting Levi the job BUT Sarah wrote a letter of recommendation for Levi.  Note the glaring contradiction.

not knowing the father....his comment could have been tongue in cheek, as in..she did not help..

the company from what I read is Canadian, he is an engineer...I would think his cred alone would be sufficient to find a slot for the kid...w/o her letter.

...and she may have written a letter for him ages ago...last Feb!!!..or March.
It didnt say when she wrote the letter...

I say 'good for Dan Fagan' who publicly questioned how Levi could have taken part in the apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.
Fagan's actions were a service to the community. Yes, as Fagan said, "I was only doing my job."

Many of us were asking the same question about Levi's lack of a diploma while working in an electrical apprenticeship program, but as in most everything, it takes someone in the media to shine a brighter light.
If other reporters began doing a better job the public view on SP would change fast.

Thank goodness for blogs (thank you AKMuckraker and others) and forums such as we have here. Since newspapers have dropped the ball, for the most part, blogs and forums have raised the level of public awareness. I doubt seriously that the ADN would have pursued the story if not for the internet.

I notice on the comcast.net website there is an video titled something to the effect of:

Sarah Palin now admits despair over baby

but I can't open the video!

http://www.comcast.net/a/

Would somebody view it and tell us about it?  TIA
