Hello from Tokyo

Hi I have been on the Blog for a couple of weeks (really is it that long?).
I am a psychologist in Tokyo doing research on education and electronic communication. I am also interested in studies of perception, knowledge creation and global networking. I have been in Japan since 1991, i first came here in 1976 and visted off and on before settling in.
Life here before the Internet and cable TV was quite removed from the rest of the world. Now news flows freely, but there is always the recurring problem of potential Internet addiction to deal with, particularly since the major news outlets herer are all in Japanese and the focus is for obvious reasons on Japanese issues - like the potential up coming election. In addition there is the problem of finding people interested in talking politics - the Japanese generally avoid doing so except with very close friends and most arer mystified with the cultural underpinnings of American electoral politics, such as the role of the religious right.
I hope to open up some discussion of issues of identity, perception, self-presentation and subliminal messaging - if others have the interest and if I can find the time. If it seems to be of interest, I'll open a forum on the topic

"Ohio Gizmos", eajphd...,
Hey, you have 4 interesting Forum Topics there.
I always wanted to know why I spent more money on munchies than I do for the tickets whenever I go to the Flicks.
For a long time I thought it was because I "inhaled" too often. LOLOL
Welcome to the Alaskan "Games"!
