Hello from Wasilla

Hi everyone! The reporting, and the support and concern at Mudflats is truly amazing. I think you folks are all that have kept me sane the last few weeks.
I have lived in Wasilla on and off over the last 40-odd years, and feel as though I have to apologize to the world for us inflicting Palin on you poor unsuspecting people. We've always had the Grizzly Adams wannabes, the loners hiding from warrants, the opportunists, etc., coming up here and we always appreciated someone who was trying for a genuine new start. Our state motto should have been 'The stranger you are, the better we'll like you.'
We have a history of conservative farmers, who were settled here by the government in the 30's, and our population at Statehood had a large conservative military block. But since the pipeline boom we have had a steady influx of hardcore fundamentalists into Anchorage and the Valley, and Palin and her church is only the tip of the iceberg. Longtime 'Old Guard Republican' Alaskans, such as my parents, have found their voices slowly being drowned out in local politics when the churches deliberately salted the school boards and local assemblies with their members. We are just now realizing how much of our local voice has been silenced, and how this has filtered up to the State level. We were hijacked, and never saw it coming.
Add to that the blatant takeover of Alaska by McCain, and this farce has drawn a line in the sand for me.
On the bright side, my 82yo mom finally said that 'those Democrats might have a point or two'. There truly is hope

I personally don't hold you accountable for Palin, I doubt anyone else does either.

It's a bit of lingering guilt. I was aware of the recall effort over the book ban issue, and didn't take the time to become involved. 'For want of a shoe the horse was lost...'

It's with great sympathy and compassion I ask:
Think there'll be a job for her at the drink counter of the hockey rink after impeachment?
Hang in there, AKSourdoe, we had an impeachment circus here in Arizona not so terribly long ago, sure was fun. And just think your's'll have bears.
