OK, SO NOT the kind you're thinking, like Sherry Johnston's, but the crafting kind (we see this as an outgrowth of the Mudflats Crafters Club).
So, those of you who stash excessive amounts of craft materials, be it yarn for knitting and crocheting, fibers for spinning and felting, fabrics for quilting or other sewing or rug making, beads for beading, general materials for jewelry making, WHATEVER, feel free to join on up.
Like the Crafters Club--no dues, no timelines, no obligations. Just share with you fellow mudpuppies what you stash, why, what you're planning to do with it, how you got into the craft that "requires" you to stash, whatever!
Photos would be cool, if you know how to post them. One of these days I'll actually figure it out.
In the meantime, Stashers Anonymous (or not so anonymous) Unite!

Thump! Dusts self off after butt landing down the rabbit hole of the forum.
I'm here. Got no pix of my stuff at the mo', but I am here to proclaim my status as a stash gal! Yarn (for knitting, no crochet), wool in various stages of readiness for spinning (drop spindle, wheel's too complicated for moi), felted sweaters, t-shirts for doing reverse applique a la Alabama Chanin (see link)
http://www.alabamachanin.com/
and so forth.
I joined Ravelry, but am not active. Mostly use it to find patterns and look at what other people do with them. Proudest achievement: Nora Gaughan's Nantucket Jacket from the cover of an Interweave a couple years ago. It's gorgeous!

Yay! I found it!
I checked out the link to "Thread banger" (wild name) - very cool! I hope to check out some of the links in that article, too. Just have to keep track of the link is all (I think I stash those, too... just incorrigible).
Lemme see. I knit, spin, weave (trying to get back to it, anyway). Crochet on occasion, but much less than I used to.
Trying to get back into sewing, too, but would prefer to lose some of this weight first. So, I'll sew for the grandkids instead - ha.
I live in "east central Missouri" (near St Louis), hate the humid summers, probably because I was born "out west" in New Mexico, lived in Texas and Colorado. Somehow wound up here.
I have found that the most dangerous jobs in the world for me are Book stores (specially used book stores), fabric stores and yarn stores. I've worked all three over the years, and am currently working in a yarn store locally (living dangerously).
That's about all I can think of... Oh. The yarn store is even more scary when you realize that it's a very uh... conservative part of St Louis. It gets wearing to hear nothing but praise for That Shrub. (I *did* show respect - I capitalized the "S" in Shrub).
see y'all later,
Nan

Ok as a founding member of the
Mudflats Crafters Club
, I myself have huge stashes of stuff.
I have enormous amounts of paper, lots of 12x12 and 8.5x11 but also tiny scraps of every decorative paper that has ever been seen near me with no direct ownership by someone else. I save every scrap of paper I cut in folders and zip lock bags, I do use these for my work so though it looks silly to others it has purpose.
I also save anything that could be an embellishment on my cards.
I save found objects, for sculpture and jewelry. I collect stuff that I *may* someday use, my other-half collects things he found in snowbanks usually that have no use, this is the only thing he presently collects and I don't mind but its a weird collection.
I have boxes and boxes of fabric, but am still doing better than my mom who now has a room just for fabric (and laundry but really just fabric).
Basically if it can be made into something else or used to dress up something else I collect it, for later.
I am a closet neat freak, this does not mean I am secretly neat, I'm not, I'm really a slob, but I like drawers and closets really really tidy, this helps me actually use the things I collect and stash 'cause I can usually find them.
Last summer my aunt took me to a ribbon/sewing embellishment factory outlet store near her home that was closing, omg, what a dangerous place for a crafter/stasher.

Charcoal-- you are hard core! I don't even know if I qualify as a stasher compared to you. And I feel almost foolish with my 12 measly posts on the forum. Well anyway, I comment regularly on the blog and I am well and truly a recyler of stuff, so I'll hang with y'all for a while.

OK, since I started this thread (though pushed along by roswellborn and Wired Differently I'd like to note
), I suppose I should 'fess up.
In various places in the house, but mostly in the laundry/craft room (we actually DO do laundry in there too, Charcoal!) except for all those totes in the garage that are full of fabric... (oh yeah,
that's
where all the fabric is...):
• tons of fibers for spinning and or felting (and I do mean tons!), mostly wools;
• lots of yarn, some handspun (drop spindle spun so far, soon to add wheel spun), augmented by some recent acquisions of lots of storebought so that I can knit some things to sell without having to spin more for that;
• some actually knit stuff to sell, but this is a very small stash at the moment and isn't actually in that room yet;
• beads, beads, beads in various sizes for making beaded moccasins (all of two pairs) or mittens (one unfinished pair) or earrings or other jewelry or ornaments or Nepali pote necklaces (not that I'd actually be able to make them myself...) or whatever;
• jewelry making stuff (I have started taking classes and am loving it; made a bunch of Christmas presents; now am making stuff to sell, if I can part with it) including LOTS of cabochons of lovely rocks and leftover bits of silver from class;
• aforementioned pieces of finished jewelry;
• TONS of fabics, intended for quilting, in aforementioned totes in the garage (I did give some silks to a theater group recently so they can start to make new costumes after the church fire that burned us all out; I still have a LOT of fabrics though);
• huge bunch of old t-shirts that I plan/planned to make into t-shirt quilt(s) (also in those garage totes and in boxes in my closet and...);
• a bunch of construction "detritus" from the church rebuilding that I'm going to make into something for the new church (cut off peg ends, wood shreds, huge chunk of wood, nails, etc.);
• a bunch of the spouse's reject slides that occassionally turn up in art projects (Wearable Art show jewelry, two Bra Dazzler lamps, maybe other stuff eventually), though a bunch of them were thrown out (NOT by me) when we moved into the house in '08;
• various bits and pieces from taken apart dead electronics that might make it into art projects some day;
• a zillion mother of pearl buttons in case I ever need to make button blankets/robes; and
• I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of what at the moment!
Do I sound like I need an intervention or something (DO NOT suggest this to the spouse, please!)?

Hey, Wired, not to worry about low post numbers here. We know you're over at the Blog a lot, and this place can be a maze. I just wanted to make sure we had a place to stash chat! And I'm sure you actually have more stashed than you realize (or at least than you're willing to admit!).

Ah, daMamma, a mishmash stash! Those can be ther best or the most frustrating, when you know you have that "thing" that you need for something but just can't find it!

I can never find that "thing" I know I've got until I've already purchased/acquired a new one!

I realized I hadn't listed my stash, or even started to. Oy.
At the shop, I joke that I haven't seen the far side of my 'green' room in two years now. Which is a lie. I had to get to the far side to dig out a friends spinning wheel - given to her by the hateful ex. I was just storing it until she figured out whether she was going to sell it or what.
Shelves & cabinets of novelty yarns: ribbons & different fuzzies. Sock yarn to knit. Sock yarn to dye. Worsted wool yarn, acrylic coned yarns, wool on cones, cotton (for weaving) on cones. Crochet cotton for crochet (duh) or tatting. Pearl cotton for any of the above.
Wool roving, angora fiber to spin, a little silk, a little cotton. Maybe flax, can't remember (that's bad).
Cotton fabric suitable for quilts from 2 different store closings, flannel(s), gabardine/twill weave (pants eventually), single knits, broadcloth, velveteen, denim (+ elastic, thread, notions, buttons, etc).
Oh lord. Fabric strips for weaving, too.
Good grief. I think I'm either going to go have a lie-down or a clear-out, not sure which. I didn't even get to the beads.
I can see why I never wanted to list it all! Yikes.

i forgot beads..... they are everywhere in every room, the boxes that say videos, those are beads, the drawers those are full of beads, the tool box, full of beads..... I'm also fairly certain if you vacuumed out behind the cushions of my couch you would have enough beads to adorn all our forum members in necklaces and maybe even earings and bracelets too. How did I forget the beads?

ROFLMBO!! Y'all make me feel so - um, conservative
And jealous, of course, but since I'm always complaining that I can't find a thing in this unorderly (NOT by choice!!) mess here, "conservative" is the word to latch on to. Just wait until I get around to building cabinets and shelves and sewing tables and a glass shop and all that!

Yup, I figure ira2 is going to put us all to shame when she gets all the shelves built and everything organized!

Ira honey,
Any time you feel a need to - nay, even a mere whim to enhance your stash, just say so. I'm sure something can be Worked Out! There's so much stuff in here, I really can't get to any of it. PITA.
Wired - I saw the Nantucket Jacket! Omigawd, that's gorgeous! What color did you do yours in? I love the cut of it (hard to say "cut" when talking about knits, but you know what I mean I hope).
I've got a few things on Ravelry projects, still need to get some pictures up though. (Same name there).
I have a sock calling my name here, it wants its heel turned, poor thing.

I'm a lightweight. I freely admit this.
But I have an awesome stash (for a lightweight) of embroidery type stuffs in the Closet I Am Afraid Of.
It's yours if you want it. BUT you have to come get it.
To get it, you will have to drag out a toybox, a chain fire escape ladder, two end tables, a cradle, an old wicker hamper full of denim I thought I was going to make a quilt out of, a lamp, 4 boxes of stuff I'm fixin' to frame, two window fans, baby clothes (my baby is 23), my high school graduation robe, and a small area rug. I think you can get to it without disturbing the other half of the closet, but feel free if your of a mind to drag that stuff out too.

Aww, Connie, too bad you're so far away... as if I really needed to add more to my stashes... hm, I think I have some embroidery stuff around here already; I must have forgotten that when doing my list earlier. It must be a minor amount in comparison to the other stuff though!

and I use the term loosely
, you can fit in a small area when you really have a mind to?!

Wouldn't it be easier to just drill in through the back wall of the closet?

As I poke around a bit I see a lot of names I haven't seen on the blog for a long time. I guess you've all been partying over here!
Nan, my Nantucket Jacket is a not-quite-olive green-- a multi-ply yarn that enhances all the twists and cables of the pattern. And you know, it wasn't as hard to knit as I thought it would be. Mostly the pattern repeats regularly. The little gussets on the bottom are one of my favorite features.
At the moment I'm working on a stash scarf from Leigh Radford's One Skein book. It's got a couple rows of cables on it, and I'm using a lime green microfiber yarn left over from a Really Great baby blanket I made a couple years ago. The cables look great-- they really stand out.
InJuneau, was it you who had all the t-shirts for a quilt? Nan? Anyway, look at the link I posted to Alabama Chanin's website. She does some great reverse applique work with cotton t-shirts, and I've used her ideas as an inspiration for some of my work. I have a pile of t-shirts, some for cutting up, some for altering, and a big plastic basket of pieces to use as appliques. And, now that I'm thinking about it, a respectable amount of embroidery floss, which is oddly addictive. It was on sale at Joanne's last week and I had to buy 8 new colors.
