Like many others, I found Mudflats when I Googled Sarah Palin the night she came onto the national stage as John McCain's running mate.  I read the blog posts and comments every night.  Mudflats is, by far, the political site I enjoy the most...perhaps that's because being with like-minded people brings a smile to my face.   Cool  Thanks!

Hola, Carol.  Welcome

I enjoy Mexico very much. It would be nice to hear your thoughts on the violence going on down there right now. It's being written about here as though the country is about to collapse, but I've heard that we are being deluged with news in our media about it that's being vastly overstated. I think it's a much more complex issue than just simply bad drug dealers doing horrible things to other bad drug dealers.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!   reindeer

I've lived in Mexico for 29 years now and love it here.  For me, one of the best things about Mexico is it's people...gentle, kind, giving souls.  I usually don't post on any lists or blogs as I don't seem to fit in but I do think I've found my place with you muckrakers.

judy...do you mean Ajajic, Jalisco on mainland Mexico?  Ajajic is a beautiful place with a large number of expatriates as is my area of Los Cabos located at the tip of the Baja penninsula.  If you are ever coming to Los Cabos, please let me know, I'd love to show you the sights (that's an open invite to you all).  Cool

futurexpat?...the drug-related violence is in the towns along the USA boarder.  So far, no Americans have been killed though tourism in these boarder towns is, understandably, suffering.  I haven't heard of any violence in the rest of Mexico and it is non-existent here in Southern Baja.  As far as Mexico's economy goes, I do believe there are problems as indicated by the peso dropping from a steady 10p/1usd to 15p/1usd within the past 6 months or so (lots of good deals for those with US dollars).  As goes the USA, so goes Mexico and the world, IMHO.

Thanks for the link. I have bookmarked it since it's long, and I will go back to it later.

We kicked around Los Cabos on a cruise day two years ago. Lovely area.

I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit all but two US states, all but one Canadian province, many of the Carribbean Islands and 36 European countries.  Everywhere, I've found beauty, especiallly so in the people I met.  It's exciting knowing where everyone here lives as it brings back many fond memories.

Today, I enjoyed exploring the forum and reading today's Mudflats blogs and comments.  So much is happening in the world today, it's difficult to keep up, and I'm so in awe of how knowledgeable you people are...thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom.

judi - Not to worry, Ajijic is a difficult word to spell and even harder to pronounce.  (I just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same place).  And, don't ever let go of your dreams for dreams are the spice of life  Wink

Carole in Mexico,

Welcome from a northern neighbour. I just know you have been to my province, as it it the one everyone drives through on the way to at least 3 others.

Hope you'll enjoy our muddy fun!  Welcome

You Mudflaters sure make a newbie like myself feel really welcome...Thanks!

It's been a rough few days with some of my US expat friends calling to vent their anger with the AIG bonus debacle.  Tomorrow I'm driving to Cabo to buy a magnet for my Swap person....nothing like shopping to lift a girl's spirits  Cool

Aeroentropy - So far I'm enjoying learning how to navigate the forum and chatting with you wonderful folks.  I'm looking forward to joining in on the politics, though I have to admit I had no interest in politics before PO asked *me* to help him in his quest and I realized, if I truly cared about a better future for us all, I simply had to get involved.

Irishgirl - Sorry, scratch 36 countries (that was an around-the-world trip in the 70's that we had to cancel on).  Make that 13 countries, a road-trip though western Europe, including Ireland (from Waterford to Cork, Killarney, Limerick & Dublin).  Picturesque countryside and a fun time with the locals at an Irish pub - loved it!

Califpat - A double welcome from So. CA, wow, are you a Valley girl, too?   Wink

the problem child - On our USA/Canada trip we flew in to *Fredericton* to fix something or other on the plane so we didn't get to do any sight-seeing by car.  However, we took the 2 young mechanics to lunch and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing their perspective of the Maritime province's relationship with the rest of Canada (Quebec in particular) and with the USA.  I was born in Ontario and lived in Quebec till I was 9 so this was particularly interesting to me and a great experience.

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes!
