PLEASE - read these instructions carefully.

Action taken without following these instructions may harm our cause.

We want to get the story of AKMuckraker out into the general media.

When writing to the media -

DO -
- Use a safe email address, do not use your personal email address (read this post for info)
- Keep it brief, simple, and basic. Just the facts, Ma'am!
- Use paragraphs
- Use spell check
- Give the media this link to the post by AKMuckraker which gives more detail - http://www.themudflats.net/2009/03/27/in-exposing-the-identity-of-mudflats-rep-mike-doogan-exposes-himself/
- personalize your email

- let them know why this story is important to you eg -
- freedom of speech
- politician punishing his critics for speaking out about his (frankly bizarre - who replies to letters the way he did?) behavior

DO NOT -
- swear
- call Doogan (or anyone else) names
- overload your email with details
- make it too long - it won't get read
- copy someone else's email

SEND ONLY ONE EMAIL AT A TIME.

Do not use CC or BCC to send email to many of the media at once, it is considered impolite.

Please do not post your email here or on the blog UNLESS you sent it from a safe account which does not have your real name, address, or other personal details.

In the following post, we will paste email contact information for the media.

  Great list!!
Another suggestion:  If everyone uses the same key words in the subject line (but not precisely the same words, as if SPAM is being sent), the recipient will start noticing the pattern without even having to open the emails (which at times can be numerous), and thus be more curious.
I suggest the words Mudflats & Doogan, but perhaps others who are more savvy at this have another suggestion.  Doogan + ethics?  Mudflats & 1st Amendment.

Progressive radio has been very supportive of AKM.
I am sure will be very interested in reporting and commenting on this situation.
Ed Shultz met with AKM when he was up in Alaska and has mentioned her on his show several times.
His Producer is James Holm and his email is james@edschultzshow.com
Ed's email is ed@edschultzshow.com
Mike Malloy's email is mike@mikemalloy.com
His Producer is Kathy Bay and her email is malloyproducer@aol.com
*updated* Bill Press has recently had an editorial in the Washington Post in February about Progressive Voices being Silenced. His email is on his contact page at http://www.billpress.com/contactus/.
He can also be reached on AOL Instant Messenger, Screen name: BillPressShow
Thom Hartmann's email is thom@thomhartmann.com
Stephanie Miller's Producer is Chris Lavoie and his email is Chris@StephanieMillerShow.com
The Program Directors at the local progressive stations can be very helpful in getting the word out and also getting this posted on their station websites.
The Program Director for KKGN in San Francisco is JohnScott@Green960.com

Why is it that every time I see Sarah Palin on TV she keeps looking around like someone is going to hand her a bouquet of roses, put a crown on her head and give her a sash that says, " Queen of America" 2009?

Did I hear Sarah Palin say that computers are tools of the Devil?

Ed Schulz is an excellent idea!  How about Stephanie Miller?  I'll leave the contact info to others as it's 4am in HI, and I'm going back to sleep!

                                                 Party! Flag Party!

Thanks for the fabulous list. I was up all night writing about this issue and others. I skipped the evil fox network and the Limbaugh.  I Need Coffee!

Some of the addresses have been taken off the initial list as they bounced when I sent email.

I will be editing the list as addresses bounce, if they do.

What is the verb involved with this technology?  When one sends a tweet on the twitter network, is one tweeting or twittering?

One twitters tweets.  (I think.)

It is also critical that you post responses to the blogs that carry the story.  This makes them "hot" and more likely to be followed up on.

I chose to cancel our subscription to the Anchorage Daily News this morning. After the phone call, I emailed the Circulation Director to explain why just in case the non-English-as-a-native-language didn't get it right. Here is my letter:

Dear Mr. Weinfurter,

This is a followup email to clarify the reasons I gave the phone call center operator when I canceled our Anchorage Daily News subscription this morning.

While I expected the ADN to support their boy Mike Doogan, I was hoping against hope that the ADN might choose to support the right of an ordinary citizen to remain anonymous instead. However, since the Ear (which is pretty much written anonymously, I might point out) chose to post the real name of the Alaska blogger Mudflats, I choose to cancel our subscription in protest of the ADN's hypocrisy and lack of ethics. Publishing this blogger's name was done solely for the reason of trying to silence them and have petty revenge. I find this action on the part of the ADN Ear to be reprehensible.

Journalists and newspapers in particular have always defended their right to use anonymous sources and for the ADN to 'out' someone who chose to be anonymous is extremely hypocritical and ethically wrong in my opinion. I support my opinions with my money and therefore, have canceled our subscription. I hope others will do the same. Your paper is not worthy of existence if it does not serve the people and the right to free speech.

Thank you. I received an email back from the editor making many excuses, but what it came down to is that they don't respect the right to remain anonymous and I see no reason to engage in further dialog with them.

My DH will miss doing the daily puzzles, but I'll buy him a puzzle book.  Cheesy

As I said over at the Blog, please be respectful to Doogan's staff and try to leave them out of this.  It's not their faults that their boss ended up being an a*****e, and someone has to be able to do work in the last less than three weeks of Session.
