New Comments Format

Hello Forum Folks!
I've been lurkin' on the main site since the Republican Convention, and visit faithfully and daily.
With the new server (either causally or coincidentally), there are a few changes in the way comments are handled that are a little confusing. My main thought is that now that the comments are divided into pages of 50 (nice for load times), it would be great if the oldest page loaded first, rather than the newest page. I'm not always early in the queue to read a post, and it is hard to pick up the thread of comment narratives when the second or third page of comments loads before the first.
I also find the comment format a little harder to read (this is CSS stuff, I imagine, as well as options in the php). I don't remember numbers on the comments from before, and I like the numbering system - it is easier to find a particular comment in a sea of comments! However, the separate comments seem to run together a bit more - there is less space separating them - and there seems to be more info up in the "header" of the comment, so to speak. In any event, it is a LOT harder to read the comments now. The old Mudflats site (mudflats.wordpress.com) has the "old style" comments. I just visited to see what they looked like, and it was like a fresh spring breeze, visually, that is. :-)
I hope I'm not out of line with this somewhat nitpicky critique.

The oldest page loading first is duely noted, not sure on best implimentation.
me and Admin were basically too tired last night after the move to finish off the comments section, they should return to the same visual format hopefully within the next 24 hours.
also will try to wedge in some <<first <last 1,2,3 next> last>> type stuff

Thanks for the response! I'm sure you all are worn out with everything going on. Actually, things seemed to settle into the new server without too much fuss from the visitor's side, at least! ;-)

Hehe, in all truth though, it will be admin who fixes that, not me.
As i mentioned else where, I really only deal with 'Meta' issues, admin, snosk and others deal with what you 'see',
I just keep the bits that let you 'see' running

Thanks for all the work you do. It is so appreciated. But it steams me to no end that you have to go through all of this unnecessary resituating things because of a nut job. I truly apologize for that hideous moron.

I have to say, it is really unlikely that we will switch back to first page loading first. Most people seem to want the latest comments on the page that reloads because they sit and press reload fairly often. If we switch it the other way, the page that will load when you press reload will be the first one.
Sorry about that.
You’ll have to press number one to get back to the first page. The benefit is, once you have read the thread, you’ll get the latest comments with a quick screen reload.
Most people feel the numbers are a great improvement, but in order to get them we had to have the other changes as well. As I said, the admin who worked on it does have a full time job and has already spent significant time rewriting the code.
It isn’t just a matter of flicking a switch. If we change one wrong thing, we might lose the comments entirely.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather the Admin sit down and do the job when he has had a good nights sleep, and has a free day off to sit and figure it out on the test blog before switching it to the live blog. His next day off is not until the middle of next week.

The Admin had an unexpected day off, and we've fixed the comments section. Make sure to have a look and let me know what you think.
