Doogan believes mudflats is just a bunch of women from out of state.

I believe that there are a majority of women on this site, I also think a majority of the membership is from out of state. but I may be wrong. Alot of the new members are coming out as male in the introduce yourself and alot of male sounding mudpup names and a lot of new Alaskan mudpups.
So lets find out

I've traveled to Alaska five times, once more next month. Does that count even a little bit? We had thought about moving there, but, frankly, the politics is one of the things that turned us off (and the long winter nights  It's Freezing!).

I could argue I've spent a lot of money in Alaska (and believe me, I have).  Wink

It seems to me it is a pretty even break when it comes to those who participate quite a bit - It would be a whole other level of statistical analysis to determine of the men and women that visit the forum, how many of each are actively involved, and how many just like to read. This vote will give an indication of how many of each on forum, but not necessarily reveal our ratios among readers of AKM's blog. Oh, I could just go on  but think that is quite enough conjecture and confusion.

I'm female and have lived in Alaska since 1976.  I think one of the hardships in finding like minded friends is the rural nature of towns and communities outside of Anchorage.  What I've noticed is that I have a lot of liberal friends, but even more of them seem to be repubs... Of course, of those, most are military or much newer to Alaska.  Then there's the repub group that are my parents age.  They were repubs back in the Nixon days and hold rather outdated ideas.  (Sorry mom).  Everyone else I know hold "libertarian" ideals, but want a more utopian society.  Those who are well educated and reasonable people are liberal.

Hi Memphis NY,

Some day we might meet at the G N Mall and recognize each other by wearing our mudflats shirts.

due simply to the population issue, you'll find that the majority are from "away".   An interesting addendum might be "US citizen" or "non-US citizen".  I think it is terrifically cool that there are people from all over the world here.  Doogan never even addressed THAT little aside!

Yup, female, non Alaskan. But since I live in Washington state, we feel a lot of ties to Alaska. There are people who have lived there and then moved here, or who go there often to fish, or who take a cruise and come back with glowing reports of Alaska's beauty. So I don't think of it as being as far away as it really is.

Being right next door to British Columbia gives me the same feeling that I am part of something bigger than just my own state. And I like it - the connections to both.

Female Alaskan since 1966 - OMG, how many years ago was that!  and I'm only 25 Wink

Those of you who haven't experienced an Alaska winter are actually missng one of life's greatest pleasures.  There's nothing like working your butt off from May to October to get the woodshed, pantry and freezer filled, earn enough money to pay the bills and then just sit back by the woodstove with all that good food, a little schnapps and a good book while the snow piles up outside.  doesn't get any better.
Have to admit I'm sure happy to wake up to rain this morning tho - enough is enough.  I can see parts of my driveway! Cheesy

Male
Non-Alaskan
Veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States (1st Lieutenant)
Two family members just came back from Afghanistan after seven years on the ground.
They along with about 15 other Americans and other foreign nationals and 450 Afghans ran the entire medical relief effort for the United States of America in harms way. They both speak fluent Farsi. They would be glad to get Mr. Doogan air dropped into the Infidel Quarter on the border with Pakistan. He would not last 48 hours in that situation and terrain. If he wants to try it, they will get him the gig. Just tell them where to send the body for his family.

Today I am with them at the family welcome home party we are giving for them after seven years on the ground. Their story would certainly make a good book or film. We just spent four hous this morning looking at photos and hearing stories of these years. All those years they censored their accounts as not to upset my elderly Morther. Now that they are back for good, they are telling us the truth of many situations. The whole conversation this morning should have been filmed for PBS. I hope my sister writes that book. They both speak fluent Farsi (self taught). They are the real deal and hands on know the country better than very few people. They can get Mr. Doogan a position running mule trains out of Kandahar. I wonder how he would feel if someone outed his indenitity to the Taliban there as he did to AKM in his antics here?

I wonder?

 Huh?  Huh?  Tongue

Wow, This is tricky.
I'm female (not tricky at all).

I'm Alaskan native but don't live in Alaska.  So, what does that make me?  female/non-alaskan or female/alaskan?

which came first the chicken or the egg?   Grin

Well said, Pat.  For quite a few years hubby and I lived about 75 miles from Blaine and the border crossing into B.C.  We went up there quite frequently once upon a time, but rarely after 9/11.

And we've sailed to Alaska on cruises twice, with excursions ashore that we enjoyed immensely, especially river rafting to watch the eagles.

I honestly never thought about Alaska politics, just the Alaska I (barely) knew as a visitor, until the Palin VP candidate selection.
