You are completely right about the Boston Tea Party. It was about giving breaks to
corporations
. Doesn't that have a familiar sound to it today?

Funny thing is, while Boston gets all the credit for the Tea Party thing, they were neither the first nor the last to do it. They simply got all the press.

Huffpost just put up a great story on the tea parties that happened in February - complete with video. Grab some popcorn, you'll enjoy this.
After reading this, it is a little easier to sit back and let Fox News stir up whatever populist rage they can muster, as the little guys get together to defend the rich guys from taxes, without apparently wondering why they are not fighting for themselves....

What is mind numbing for me about the whole Tea Party rhetoric is that they are so incredibly incoherent about what they are against, and so silent about what they are actually for. With careful reading, they are just a bunch of angry people whose higher reasoning has been hijacked by their adrenalin response. I get that they are angry, but it seems to be chronic, and not based on anything real. They have whipped themselves into a frenzy and need to have some sort of cathartic crisis before they will calm down enough to begin to heal. It is almost like they need a no-holds-barred fight to balance their hormones or something. Maybe it is another aspect of conservative culture that I will never understand - the need for two alpha's to beat the crap out of each other before they can express affection and have a beer as best friends.

They have a strong need to see themselves as patriotic Americans, flag-waving patriots, our country-love it or leave it, blah blah.
They spent 8 years bashing anyone who disliked Bush or his policies, calling us unAmerican and unpatriotic.
Now they dislike Obama and his policies. This causes cognitive dissonance, confusion, conflict in their tiny brains.
Their solution is to somehow connect anti-Obama sentiment with patriotism.
Someone remembers The Boston Tea Party was patriots protesting government policies, and Voila!

Another thought about the whole Tea Party idea - the orignal tea party destroyed a shipment of tea so that the British Government couldn't collect a tax on it.
When I first heard this idea, people were supposed to mail a single tea bag to various govt. offices as an expression of protest about something. The next day I heard the conservatives I am surrounded by talking about how Homeland Security had issues with tea bags in the mail, so it was discussed about sending a picture of a tea bag. That was the beginning of the EPIC FAIL.
I am thinking that all these angry people pride themselves on not being thieves, so they have to buy the tea - benefitting tea companies everywhere. Whatever they mail, they pay the postage, benefitting the USPS. Whatever address they send stuff to may have a small inconvenience of unwanted paper mail and tea bags of dubious freshness or consumability, so all they are really creating is a waste disposal/landfill problem. None of these real results helps propel their protest or the ideas behind it. It does send the message that these are some pretty stupid, pathetic people.
I have been hearing about this for over a month, and I know rallies have been held that have been underwhelming. The whole project is like the expected blockbuster that turns out to be a dud. A lot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

An excellent article I came across today.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-04-10/gop-rip/
Quote
What about the Republican Party right now? Isn’t it on radio and TV claiming to be the party of fiscal responsibility and American power? Bypassing the stupidity of these claims, I am on radio, on what is called right-wing radio, and it is easy for me to see that my loudest colleagues, who compulsively repeat the cant of Conservatism for Dummies, are not sincere students of the Republican Party but rather barkers, hookers, establishmentarian jesters, cultists, and, in the worst instance, just thatch-headed whiners. Fox News is a parade of wet-eared Republican office holders, yet there is usually just one each allowed of the categories the Democrats own in multitudes: a Jewish-American, an Asian-American, an African-American, a Hispanic-American. Then there is the beauty pageant of fast-talking, rude Fox blondes—if they are not all the same woman in mood swings—who stridently mock the Democrats, yet have almost nothing to say about the Republicans, as if the party was a disappointing ex or mother’s latest beau.

This is an excellent side effect. The USPS can certainly do with handling a few extra letters, and the postage might buy them some extra uniforms, or maybe a truck given the amount they're mailing.

I certainly wouldn't want to drink any of the tea they are sending. However the envelopes can be recycled and if they are sending photocopies of the tea, this also can be recycled. The tea itself cannot be used or recycled, sadly. There are some tea bags that come in sealed packets these days which could possibly be used, but would you trust a republican sending tea in the mail? No, me either.

Absolutely. However, given the benefits to the economy we should heartily encourage them in these stupid and pathetic protests.
For your enjoyment, Wonkette has some examples of these protests - but I suggest you do not be drinking tea when you click..

Would it be terrible if I suggested we send the
dog teabagging cat pic
by email to Fox, a lot, For America?

I am amused at the idea that liberals need do nothing except perhaps disinfect their own scrotums - you know where those conservative mouths have been!

I presume it doesn't have anything to do with word salad.
Ok...off to google tossing salad. I am learning so much on this forum.
