Hi,
I have been reading your blog ever since Sarah Palin was named as what's his names VP running mate.  It seems that nothing can shock me anymore.  I am originally from the Netherlands and settled in Northern California in my youth.  Several years ago I decided to join some friends here in the extreme southwestern mountains of North Carolina and I am glad I made the move.
Now, most folks think North Carolina is a pretty red state, but we are way into purple now and moving steadily into blue.  The demographics here are changing from rural farmers to retirees from the Atlanta Metro area, Florida and California.  We have an official Obama campaign office right here in our little corner of NC and even if we don't get the state to go blue this year I think people will be surprised at how close it will be.  I am going to keep working to make it an Obama state.
I tend to be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.  Of course with what the Republicans have done to our economy being a fiscal conservative automatically makes you a Democrat hehehe! Also I describe fiscal conservative as someone that spends the peoples money for the people in a responsible fashion, this eliminates giving money to institutions that would like to rip off main street.  And yes, I do make my mortgage payment monthly and it ain't easy.
I have worked as an engineer most of my life.  I have worked for Public Works in a city of 500,000, also the Water Commission of that same city and then I was the treasurer of the Water Agency in a town of 8,000.  I believe that this qualifies me for at least the post of Secretary of the Treasury if I use the rebublican model of qualifications.  If necessary I can fill in as Secretary of Transportation as well as Energy.  I suppose I am even qualified for VP using the same republican criteria used to pick Sarah Palin  Wink
Well, thanks for being here and now I will go back to leaning to the left in everything I do, day in and day out Grin
