Here is a site that gives lots of good information on how to deal with these thugs.

http://healthcareforamericanow.org/site/fight

Yes! That's exactly what I'm talking about!

According to an article in today's Observer, Obama's approval rating is "plummeting". To get this thing through, Members of Congress need to know he still has a lot of support. To get the figures back up, the flood of lies needs to be stopped.

I, too, have recently been giving a lot of thought as to how we can counter the Right. Was having a very good conversation last night in chat with WritingfromAlaska,Gramiam,OregonSue who are also very concerned with the way things are going on the health care reform debate.

It is time we took some actions...public, large, and open action. Nothing wrong with putting up red, white, and blue lights, but who would know what that means. I am advocating for a march on Washington to show our support for Obama and concern with the current state politici.

This issue goes beyond health care. What the rethugs are doing directly affects our 1st amendment rights. How do we want our country governed and by whom? Do we want thoughtful, respectful debate on issues or are we going to let bullies spread lies and dictate policy by yelling the loudest? I think not.

Continued from above post...I have so much to say and I ran out of room.

As I was doing some research on the the web this morning on how to organize a march in Washington, I ran across a letter from FreedomWork (Dick Armey's "grassroots" group), they are planning a march in Washington on Sept. 12. Quote from letter: "Now that Congress is back in session, we have to work hard to defeat cap and tax in the Senate, and to make sure that we defeat all schemes to socialize medicine in this country." Do we want national policy being usurped by a crook?

While I am very much for a march, I can be persuaded to go another route. All I know is that it needs to be something that is up front and visible, that will get media coverage, that will send a message loud and clear to the right. If we could use marching in the streets as a way to help end a war, surely we can do it now to shut up the Dick Armeys of the world.

There could be two marches...one on the east coast and one one the west, or like teabaggers, we could have local marches...whatever we do...it needs to be visiable and it needs to peaceful.

Another continuation...never been quite so verbose..

Things I have already done...while not much it is a start...sent an email to MoveOn.org, contacted my local Democratic party, located a list of liberal organizations on the web (in the process of going thru list and obtaining email addresses),got a set of instructions on what is needed from the DC parks &recreation to hold a protest/rally in DC, planning to contact Obama's web site today, and tomorrow will be calling my state Democratic party.

Lastly, will be meeting Graimiam in chat tonight around 10pm...would like to encourage anyone who is really serious about this to join us. Will also post that info on the open thread on Mudflats. Come on people...let's not give up on this...it's important. Whether we decide on marches or not...something has got to be done. We voted for change in November...so let's be a part of that change. Hope to see all of you tonight...it's past time to act.

The DC Parks & Rec said we need to plan 3 months in advance, but I'm hoping we can get this together by Sept 19, the weekend after Freedom Works march. We can do it, I know we can.

I'm so glad you are doing this, and hope we can come up with something big enough and clear enough and bold enough and peaceful enough that it will be stunning in some way. I'll try to be here tonight at 10!  I feel very small! But I also feel we are not alone, and that's what we need to communicate to and for each other and our nation. Gotta get people MOVING and MOVED.

I just got the following e-mail from Organizing for America, President Obama's grassroots organization. It really makes a lot of sense, much as the thought of going to visit John McCain's office gags me. I intend to visit my Congressman as well. He has been a supporter from the gitgo and needs to know we have his back. It is a way to show up the crazies with intelligent and thoughtful dialog.

Quote
All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President's plan, and it's extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we've cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We'll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

You can read the rest of the email here:

This video was posted on the open thread today and really zeros in on what is at stake. Might be worth passing it around. It is Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois speaking about personal experiences with the current system.

HOW TO HELP OBAMA:  We ALL need to attend every town hall meeting that we can this month.  The media, our leaders, and our President need to see that the majority of us want a national health care plan.  So far, the media has focused on the screaming disrupters.  We need to outnumber them HUGELY so the media can focus on us.  If we do not show up, we will regret it later; it will be seen as apathy.  Showing up at your local town hall meetings will show support for our President and his plan.  PLEASE GO!

New Hampshire Mudpuppies, or anyone reasonably close to Portsmouth, this is for you.

Pres. Obama is holding a town hall in New Hampshire this Tuesday.  NBC News has an invitation from the New Hampshire Republican Volunteer Coalition, who will be rallying against the president. It reads in part:

Quote
Barack Hussein Obama will be arriving in Portsmouth on Tuesday to hold a STAGED "Town Hall Meeting", where he will essentially hand pick who the guests will be and what types of questions will be asked of him.

A MASSIVE protest rally is being organized just outside of the facility where Obama will be holding his "Town Hall Meeting" to promote his plan for a government takeover of your healthcare decisions.

Just an idea - there is so much info about heath care reform actions sprinkled around this forum.  Perhaps we should have a thread entitled Health Care Reform Actions?

Keep it strictly on topic.  Just a brief summary of the action and links for further information.

Each post would have its own Subject, titled by state (ie, Maryland, etc., if it is a local meeting or other activity) or Internet Action (such as on line peptitions) or National (call your reps, march in WDC).  We could also have a section for information, fact checking, talking points, and so forth.

Then we have a one-stop shop, without reading through off topic comments and searching the forum.

Forty--

As usual, that missive from the fake protesting people is filled with big fat lies: publicly available tickets to attend the Portsmouth High School town meeting are being randomly drawn from citizens (yes, citizens of the actual area, this being a town meeting) who signed up (with verifiable zip codes).  Citzens are not being screened for political leanings.

This is more political projection from the right, because the former White House denizens did indeed do political pre-screening, at least in this part of the country.

BTW, I'm very excited because one of my children is a member of a musical group that happens to be rehearsing as we speak to play for a certain special guest.

We had a very good "meeting" last night (sorry Hope, it was at 10 pm ET).
We decided to create a blog where all the information, links, etc. can be gathered and organized.
I set the blog up at
http://healthylookathealthcare.blogspot.com/
and will be tinkering with it.
We'll be meeting in chat again tonight at 10 pm ET.

My rep already had his town hall about a month ago. He's a far-right Republican. It was depressing, to say the least. He had the stupid chart and stupid talking points, and most of the people in the room agreed with him. Anyone who had facts on their side got shouted down.

I and all my children will be sporting pro-health insurance reform signs in NH tomorrow, then making the rounds of Senator & reps' offices to drop off all our handwritten letters after the President's speech.

Sorry, I have been out of touch for a few days due to a family situation. I finally got through to my local Democratic party rep and we had quite a nice chat. I think that may be a good place for each of us to start since we are all so spread out.

We did talk about holding a picnic, with speakers plus testimonials from people without health coverage, literature, a petition, people availabe to talk one-on-one with people about their concerns over health care reform and topped off by a candlelight vigil from the park where the picnic is to held thru our towndown area ending at the plaza in the middle of town.

We did talk a little about a march on Washington, but looks like a no go for now. I wanted to march with health care reform but also wanted to show support for Obama.
