I quote someones post and it fills the comment box, so I scroll down to the bottom of the quoted part in order to type my comment. As soon as I start typing the text jumps down and I can't see what I am typing. Has always worked fine, it appeared to start after I re-installed my operating system. No other problems. Any ideas?

I noticed the same thing but thought it was just me doing something wrong; I often screw this internets machine up!  Embarrassed

Thank you for asking...I hope someone can help us.

Weird!  Sounds like gremlins to me. I have no thoughts. Anyone else???

(though, as always, quit and reboot is a good place to start!)

Well if you are using internet explorer there is your first clue of what is wrong - try using Mozilla Firefox - it works a lot better and you won't get infected with nasty internet viruses.  Grin

Secondly, I do find this happens if I do not allow the page to load fully. So I suggest making sure the page is fully loaded before you start typing. Smiley

How do I attribute a quote? I assumed it did it automatically. Evidently, as usual, I got it wrong  Cry

Normally, it does - just like above - when you hit the quote thingy above the post you want to quote (technical term Smiley )

The code, which you'll see at the top of the box after hitting the quote thingy,  shows a square bracket [ then quote=whoever you are quoting link= topic= then the code for the specific message then another ] square bracket
then the text itself
finished by another square bracket [ a slash / quote and a closing square bracket]

I'm not certain why it's not working for you but I'm sure there's someone who can offer an explanation.

Cut and paste the link that you are referring to. You will see it in the url. I normally click on the url with the right click, options appear, click on copy (or Ctrl C), then go back to where you want to paste it. Click CTRL V or paste. No need to sweat.  Wink Wink

How do I attribute a quote?

First of all, let's turn the  Cry to a  Grin  It's not about wrong.  Think of it as taking it to the next level.

When you want to quote another poster, begin by clicking on the little box that says *quote* on the top left of the post you are going to quote.

That will open the text box and you will see the quote and attribution already there.  Just add your comment underneath.  Click Preview to make sure all is well, Post and voila! tis done.

One thing to look for when you preview is that the final quote tag [/quote] comes after the actual quote and hasn't got itself after your comment.

If there are any more questions please feel free to ask.  Smiley

As you can see, the quote is not attributed to the original poster. That's what I can't seem to get working.

Quoting jammer5's post:

As you can see, the quote is not attributed to the original poster. That's what I can't seem to get working.

Copied from Forty Watt using the "quote" button and snipping Forty Watt's answer:

How do I attribute a quote?
If there are any more questions please feel free to ask.  Smiley

it can be tricky with quotes within quotes.
Jammer5, I think you snipped too much of Forty Watt's response and and snipped off the first part that said:
[(space)quote author=Forty Watt link=topic=7901.msg90676#msg90676 date=1258133499(space)]

ignore the (space) parts..I had to put them in there to avoid formatting thingies.

Hope that helps
