How is the easiest way to organize a little get-together? I suppose the Forum would be it. I’ve read some making comments about PMing each other. I’ve ventured out on the Forum a few times, but just as a lurker. I guess I’ll have to figure it out.

Here is a thread for y'all to discuss possible meeting locations and get in touch with each other easily. Smiley

We will be updating the states project in coming weeks, but that might be a place to start to find other Texans. There are a lot of Texas names on the list. Smiley

Thanks Snoskred!

Hey there LisanTx , Txindygirl and Misfit in Texas:

I live in Dallas County, too  Wonder why we are so fascinated with Alaska politics? Is it the audacity of it all that makes us so sentimental? Or simply SP’s BIG DALLAS HAIR?

I'd be interested in a Texas Mudstock -- maybe at the Gaylord Texan?  LOL  After all, it was the Starting Line of the Wild Ride!

Oooooooo Punkinbug, I LOVE your idea about the Gaylord!!!!  Way cool place for a Mudstock.  I'm already thinking of some funny pictures we could take.   Yeah, Palin's big Dallas hair would fit right in, wouldn't it?

I'm jumping up and down in anticipation of a Texas Mudstock.   :rlaugh:

I have never been to the Gaylord, I guess it is time to go IN and look around, rather than just driving BY it. lol

Would be really cool to meet some Texas MudPups. There are more than I thought, make me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing I am not alone.

now i might not make it to ya'lls mudstock but, perhaps and maybe also too, my sissy in ft worth could come as a stand-in.
lord knows she's heard enough about mudflats to know the significance of representing the family.

keep me informed so i can join the fun...even if from a distance.

oh...and the gaylord is the absolute perfect spot to meet. we stayed there for a few days last christmas and had a blast.

when
where
etc

early december?  on a weekend?

after attending the pittsburg mudstock - i highly recommend a place that is quiet so that everyone can have nice conversations without having to yell (smile)......private room in a restaurant or sports bar.....that kinda thing.

If you get lost, just holler.  Someone's always around with a map, a flashlight and a margarita -- whatever it takes. Grin

ENOUGHwith,

I am all for the early December weekend.
Saturday would be great to avoid all the traffic.

The Gaylord  was suggested and seconded.
I am fine with that I guess; I hear it is really cool. Been thinking I would like to look around in there.
I don't get out much, lol, but Mapquest and Google Maps come in real handy when I do.

I am not much of an organizer so PLEASE don't leave the planning up to me.  We could all end up lost if you do. LOL

I follow directions well though, lol

well, i volunteer to help organize the texas mudstock.......if someone is the leader of this adventure wants to PM me - we can trade telephone numbers and get some things started.  Hamlett's Mill may have some ideas on what did or did not work with the Pittsburg mudstock.  he told me that several of the locals got together in person several times before it was all said and done.  either that or conference calling to figure out costs, location availability, fundraising, etc.

i think early december would be a good time -- not too far into the future but close enough to keep everyone on their toes with excitement.  and the weather should still be okay for folks drving from nearby states.

i recommend at least 4-6 hour window for visiting - maybe even an evening time and an afternoon time to allow folks to drop in when their schedule permits.

someone(s) should be at the meeting place to act as hosts and to welcome mudpups as they come and go....

we had lunch together at the pittsburg mudstock and folks paid for their own meal and adult beverage so the only costs might be decorations or prizes or maybe a room fee?

just throwing some ideas out there --- i am getting excited just thinking about it !!!

I'll also be happy to lend a hand.  It would be helpful to get a count of who'd be interested so that we'd know the direction to take.  While I love the idea of the Gaylord, I think someone made the comment that we need to make sure the venue is good for conversation.  I've only been to that club next to the Gaylord (the Glass Cactus and it was not very good for conversation), so I don't know what else they offer.  However, as big as the Gaylord is, I'm sure we can find something there.  My main concern would be in keeping the costs down.  With it being so near Christmas, play money may be already allocated!

I think it would be a blast to meet y'all.

i looked at the gaylord hotel website -- i don't think that is going to work well -- we really need a restaurant that is privately owned so we can make some arrangements with the owner/manager for a private area to be reserved.......unless someone has some contacts at the Gaylord -- let's keep looking for a location.

we could stick to I-35 corridor or grapevine (central to ft worth and dallas)......depending on where the majority of the folks that are going actually live.

After further thought on the subject of location. I have to agree the Gaylord may NOT be the greatest choice. I believe around the holidays, there is a charge just to walk into the building. I don't know about everyone else, but I for one would prefer something and somewhere a little more budget friendly (if you get my drift)

Also more conversation friendly.

hi folks...

as a former host for a mudstock and an attendee at another, i have to tell ya that you're all in for a big treat.
meeting other like-minded folk is a thrill.

as for the gaylord...
i mentioned that we stayed there for the holidays last christmas.
there is no admission and seeing all the exhibits is a hoot.

the management is phenomenal  and there are many venues available within the resort for get togethers...so i bet if someone were to call, you would find the perfect spot there.
i would recommend it highly, knowing what the needs are for your mudstock celebration.
a visit there would be a double fun whammy event.

Hi everyone.  I volunteer to be at the meeting place and act as hostess as people come and go.  I'll do whatever I can with the organization, etc.

This is so exciting!

That's great, LisanTx!  I'm in the travel biz, so I went ahead and called the Gaylord to gather some informtion real quick.

You do not have to be a guest to go in; you can come out and eat in any of their restaurants or just walk around, etc.

If your meal comes to $25 or more, they will validate your parking.

There were 4 suggested restaurants:

Old Hickory - fine steak dining
Ama Lur  - Southwestern fine dining
Riverwalk Cafe - all you can eat buffet - located in atrium by the indoor river.  <-this sounded like the best one.
The Texan Station sports bar sounded a little loud.

We would need a headcount and date - then we could call back to speak with the Restaurant Sales dept.  to reserve some tables, etc.

If this is done around Christmastime, the Gaylord has an ice sculpture exhibit and other special events going on.   (So it might be crazy-busy then. . . )

Does anybody want to suggest a date?
