There is a long list of North Carolina in Florida. Smiley

Is it time to organise a North Carolina mudstock?

Please post your suggestions on dates, times, and locations for a mudstock in this thread.

Raleigh and Charlotte are convenient locations for me.

I live in Durham so Raleigh would be easy for me.

I live in Durham, so the Raleigh-Durham area would be great for me. Maybe, some place near the Research Triangle Park. Arnie's Sports Bar is located off I-40 and Hwy 54. It has space available for meetings and decent food.

Even tho, I live near Raleigh, I must confess that I get lost every time I go there.

Before Thanksgiving?

I'm in Asheville.

If we want to make this a Carolinas meet (including pups in South Carolina) we could include people in Greenville, SC and others nearby as well.

I would suggest Nov. 14 because it's the day after my birthday. Party! I say let's just pick a place and do it. Let's keep the first one simple.

1. Where? city & venue
2. When? soon
3. After those thing are decided, I think a PM should be sent to all the folks on the NC list.

I am willing to help in any way.

This message is actually from Melangell Mudpuppy who is having a problem accessing the forum at the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snoskred and NC Mudstock planners,
I got the email about the lists, tried to get onto the forum, but am having “cookie” issues. I won’t say it’s because I’m at work, but…. (sheepish look). Anyway, my computers at home are down for the time being, and I wanted to weigh in on the Carolinas idea.
I saw that several of you are in the Raleigh-Durham area, but someone mentioned an all-Carolinas Mudstock. If it was held in Charlotte, those of us in SC and WNC could get there fairly easily, as Charlotte’s pretty much in the center. If there are any Mudpups in Southwest VA, they could also get to Charlotte. I would love to attend, and will keep trying to get into the Forum.
Party on, Pups!!
I am in Brasstown, North Carolina.  That puts me in the extreme southwestern mountains of NC.  Asheville is North and Greenville, SC is just south.  Any others over on this end of NC?  We could actually include folks in Northern Georgia and Eastern Tennessee as well.  There is a great brunch every Sunday at the Brasstown Bald resort just over the border in Georgia.  Charlotte and Raleigh etc. are 4 hours or more from me.  Asheville is doable, but we could really include a lot of states in this little corner of heaven  reindeer Party! Party!
Chapel Hill  is in central NC, easily accessible from I-40 but with UNC football- and basketball season just around the corner,  accommodations can be expensive.   I can wholeheartedly recommend Time Out Sports  Bar  at the Chapel Hill Holiday Inn  as  a great  Muddy venue ( fabulous food,  great drinks,   and smoke free long before no-smoking became law in NC   Cheers!
Wherever we do meet (and as a Gamecock alumna, I'd be tickled to pieces for  Muddy  Sandlappers to be included)  I'll be the one wearing  bright yellow  LL Bean duck shoes!
I really would like to see a North Carolina and/or Carolinas Mudstock. To that end I have decided to send an invite to all the NC mudpuppies I can identify this next week...just to inform them about this and directing them to this thread.
Pearl - before you do that, you might want to suggest some dates and then I can put a poll on the thread which people can vote on. Wink
The admins have been sending out PMs to the members in locations which have narrowed it down to a few different dates and asked for a poll to be put up - it gives them a reason to visit the thread. Smiley
There is the states list which is a good place to start. I have a template PM which I can forward to you, if you like. Smiley
Cheers!
Good ideas...I'll check the calendar and see what dates look good. I am going to suggest 12/12/09 at Satisfaction's Restaurant in downtown Durham,NC starting at 2pm. I would really like to do this before next year. I just don't it to seem like I'm usurping the whole thing, but people start out real enthused and then seem to lose interest.
Also, I have identified some people who have not introduced themselves that I believe are in NC, is there anyway to check other than sending a PM. These folks are: jpuset, judy5cents, kerryann63, RayJayWNC, Yellow Girl, djconn,Esme,melangill mudpuppy.
And, YES, I would love a copy of the PM. I really don't know how this works, but is there an easy way to send it to everyone at the same time, without doing it individually.
While it's all well and good to have as many people attend as possible, I say for the first one to keep it simple. Pick a time, place, and hope for the best. After we get the first one under our belt and post about all the fun we had then I'm sure more people will  turn up for the next one.
I would also suggest that we concentrate on a NC Mudstock, first. If people for other states want to attend, super.
It's a little early yet for this suggestion (something we could discuss when we meet), but I would suggest if it goes well that we do this twice yearly. We could rotate the locations or keep them in the same place and around the same time, so everyone can mark their calendars in advance.
I just called Satifaction's Restaurant and tentatively reserved 12/12/09. I think this would be a good location because it's rather roomy, they have good food, and good beverages. Also, if we run over our time and want to go somewhere else there are approximately 5 other bars within walking distance and at least as many other restaurants...everything from pizza to Greek.
Ideas, inpu, objections...please.
I am just down in South Carolina below the NC border in Oconee County. I would be interested in attending. I think that date will work for me - I am hoping to bring spouse, who lurks here and has met other puppies in person, but does not post (so far). Hope that would be ok. Also, far left leaning adult children, one of whom is a campaign manager for the neat (democrat!) candidate running for Greenville SC water commissioner, and the other who works in DC for immigration reform. I can get final count closer to event.
Just finished sending out PMs to all those mudpuppies in NC and surrounding areas.
So far have tentative confirmations from: Kejia, GoSeeAlice, and Jan Arnold (SC). Nice to know I won't be alone.
Pearl,
I have tried to answer your PM re gifts for Ann, but your inbox is full.
I contacted mudpups who are involved with Anonymous Bloggers and they report that there are no color restrictions.
Culturally, they ask that nothing be bought or made for little one until s/he is born.  I am not of that culture so do not understand the "why" behind it, I am just passing info on.
Ann has gone to her waiting place and is doing well.
The suggested gift would be a SPAN (mail order/shipper in Anchorage) of disposable diapers in various sizes.  Washing is expensive to use cloth diapers since gas is used to heat the water.  All gifts to Ann, CC and little one would be welcome as would any donations of items to Ugashik (where Ann has been living near Vic and Rollie) or to Nunam Iqua.
NC will have much fun with their first mudstock!  It is funny how "strangers" become fast friends!
Jan Arnold, thanks for your notes!  I was lucky to meet Jan and spouse when they came to Juneau and I got to give a tour as well!
