There is a long list of mudpuppies in Oregon. Smiley

Is it time to organise a Oregon mudstock?

Please post your suggestions on dates, times, and locations for a mudstock in this thread.

I keep checking in and no one from Oregon has proposed another Mudstock.  I know there is interest.  Rain is suppose to start this afternoon, so an afternoon or evening inside with good company sounds good now.  Maybe mid-Valley on a weekend afternoon?  I'm in Corvallis, but Salem or a little north would suit me.  Anyone else interested?

It will have to be all you good folks who are more able to travel light..and without giant breed dogs..unless and until next Summer..and any Eugene/Springfield area type gathering there. Hope the rest of you manage to get a few gatherings up and moving as..'like community'..needs to gather n grow!

I'm game - would love to meet my fellow Oregonian mudpups - and I'm in Eugene.  My thinking is it should be Eugene or Salem, because the major central Oregon highways from the east side of the mountains go through both cities, but I'll drive where-ever.  We do have eastern-Oregon mudpups, right?

For my purposes, it would have to be mid-week.  I work every single weekend, odd hours too, and in this economy, I can't take the busier weekend days off (I'm a commissioned worker).  However, most folks are week-day workers, so I understand if the get-together needs to be a Saturday or Sunday.

As to time of day, afternoons and evenings are fine.  Hell, being a late nighter, I'd go for a midnight gathering, but my guess is that I'm the rare bird in that category.

I go to Eugene (from Corvallis) fairly frequently and wouldn't mind having coffee there on a weekday evening, depending upon the day. Mid-valley is fine too, especially Salem. Yeah, I work normal weekday hours.

I'm in SW Portland.  But I sometimes have occasion to head south to Salem or Corvallis or ??? -- but rarely as far as Eugene.  Right now I have a Dem meeting in Corvallis on 11/22 and another one in McMinnville in December.  Perhaps we could have an Oregon Mudstock in conjunction with the 11/22 event -- a forum about the upcoming election in January about the legislature's Tax Fairness package.  If anyone is interested I can send the event flyer.

Hope we can work something out.

An Oregon Mudstock in Corvallis on 11/22 sounds great to me. Sunday avoids any football game. I can find us a meeting place if there is interest.  I know there are other Corvallis Mudpuppies.

Unfortunately, I notice Sister Artemis cannot make weekends. I'm not sure on other options, but I am certainly open.

If you want to meet in Salem, there is a pizza parlor near my house that accommodates groups and meetings. Good pizza too. I could make a reservation. I only say this because several mentioned Salem. Corvallis in conjunction with a Democratic function would be fine.

Sounds good to me.  Depending on the day, I may be able to come up from Eugene very easily.

Salem? Corvallis? Weekday or weekend? I'm good with either. I'm busy Wednesday, Nov 18, but otherwise open. How about everyone else? As we get into the holiday season people will be busy, so we should try to arrange it soon.

I'd be happy to make pizza parlor arrangements. Let me know what you all think.

oh I am soooooo bumming out!  Due to the combo of being a salaried manager and the fact that we have now laid off about a third of our very small staff, my work schedule is flipping all over the place, covering shifts left and right.*  Very hard for me to coordinate with others outside of work.

However...

Please post when the gathering will happen, and if I can possibly get there, I will.

* Note to those concerned with labor issues:  how many people are like me - that is, I'm not necessarily working more hours, but I am working a crazier schedule as we struggle to keep the studio (I'm an artist) open with fewer people.  I don't resent it - in fact, I look at it as a sort of civic duty to try to see my workplace thru the economic crisis.  But particularly in micro-businesses (mine has 6 artists, 2 of whom are laid off right now), the burden of covering payroll is a big one.  I guess I'm living a microcosm of the whole unemployment crisis.

How would Saturday or Sunday, December 5th or 6th? Not too late in the season? It sounds like the weekend is the best for most people. I can't do anything the next couple weekends but that one works for me. Someone mentioned that Saturdays are game days. Does that matter to you? I think someone should just schedule a date. I'll volunteer to do that unless there's an objection. I'd aim for lunch. Let me know if any of you has input. Otherwise, I'll make a date and give you the information. I'll be there to meet anyone else who wishes to come. It would be helpful to know how many might come so we'll have a suitable place to sit but this restaurant is flexible.

Loreen, I'm good with either of those days as long as the roads are good - like no ice, etc. I don't drive ice... Others? Can we get the word out?

First weekend in Dec. works for me.  The big "Civil War" football game is the previous Thursday so there will not be any tailgate partiers clogging up I-5.  Not that there is anything wrong with partying -- just the traffic can be pretty bad on a game day.

I have talked to the pizza parlor and we're on. They would like some at least ball park idea how many people to expect so they'll have enough space for us. If you think you'll come please let me know. Thanks for those who have already said.

Saturday, December 5 at lunch time - about 12. They are pretty flexible if you stay and talk.

If you think we should send to everybody on the Oregon list, I hope someone else will take that on, please.

Thanks Loreen for stepping up. I know that Paddington's well, it was my Father's favorite pizza place.

So we have a Mudstock Pizza Party to plan!  Party!

Shall we consider some kind of themes/memes to add some levity?

Examples:

1) Fuzzy animal toy exchange (small ones!)
2) Limerick/Haiku/ other short poetry reading contest (or non competitive works too!)
3) Dress Code - pajamas, bathrobes & slippers (I am serious)
4) Odd facts about platypae (or is it platypusses?) so that we can de-fuse any remaining hot blooded post-civil-war exchanges between Beaver and Duck fans
5) William Shatner reading impersonations?

I will consult with Mods/Admins about sending out a PM invitation, in meantime let's keep bumping this thread on a daily basis to keep it up on the top of the Forum's activity lists, and everybody use the shoutbox to get the word out please!

Ohhhhhh... you are making this SOOOO hard!
I probably won't be able to make it to the mudstock (work) but boy oh boy, the more you plan, the more I might need to see what I can do to get out of work for a just a couple of hours.
