1. Make sure you are in the forum where you want your post to appear. In this case, we're going to write an introduction post. So click on "Introduce Yourself" in the forum menu.

2. Click on "Please read before posting in this forum" before you post. Sometimes these posts have information you need to know. In this case, you need to know a useful safety tip.

3. Ok, so we read that. Click on back in your browser to get to the Introduce Yourself forum again.

4. Now we're going to write your post. Click on the New Topic button.

5. You'll now see the write post screen.

Writing a post can be as simple - or as complex - as you want to make it. If you just want to write some text and then hit post, that is fine. There are a lot of buttons that can allow you to do extra things, and we will write further posts explaining what those buttons do - in fact we already have one here. For now, we'll keep it simple.

6. Type your text into the box as shown below.

7. You also need to put in a subject for your post, otherwise the forum will talk to you with nasty red text. Wink So remember to put your subject where it says "Subject:"

8. If you want to preview your post, click on preview. If not, go to the next step.

9. Click on post.

And there you have it! Post written.

How do you guys get the new symbol to show on new threads? I'm in the "how to" forum, I've read the instructions, and still I can't get the new thingy to show when beginning a new subject.

Not that's it's of big importance, I'd just like to know. Thanks.
p.s. I did hit the new topic button before beginning.

I think the little red "new" label is automatic, but it won't appear for you as the poster.

From Flora Thompson's "Lark Rise to Candleford" "A little later, remembering man's earthly origin, "dust thou art and to dust thou shalt return," they liked to fancy themselves bubbles of earth. When alone in the fields, with no one to see them, they would hop, skip, and jump, touching the ground as lightly as possible... and crying, "We are bubbles of earth! Bubbles of earth! Bubbles of Earth!" "

Oh, okay. I'm fine with that. I just thought I was missing something that was steering me in the eye.

Because you posted it, the forums do not think it is new to you. Smiley

The little red thing will show up for everyone else, though..  Smiley

Hope that helps. Wink

Just bumping this up..

All forum members can do this - if you have a topic you want to talk about - and that topic is not already being discussed in a thread we have - you are welcome to start a new post for it.

Some quick pointers to keep in mind when you start a new topic:

1. Do a search before you post new topics.  (See - how to search)

2. Come up with a title that makes it easy to identify the contents of the thread.

3. Spend some time crafting your first post in order to invite discussion.

4. Think carefully about where topics should be logically placed (i.e. does it belong in General Politics? Or in Issues?).

Just a note for everyone.

You can start new threads. Follow the instructions in this thread.  Grin

You do not have to PM me and ask me to do it. Wink
