This should be interesting, and also deserves its own thread. Full title:
Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime
by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin

Palin fanatics are out in full force, driving down the reviewer ratings on the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites.

"...the Palinbots have attacked this book in a new way, all saying that it deserves one star simply because it has not already been released in the Kindle format at Amazon, or the Nook/e-book format at B&N. This is a scam to load the book's pages at both sites with one-star reviews. Most people do not realize this yet. As you know, I am a small-time author who plays in this sandbox all the time, so I understand the many processes involved. The truth is that this scam has no relationship to Nooks or Kindles whatsoever. It's just more Palinbot nasty business."

I went to Amazon and added a good "go buy the book" kind of remark.
I don't know if the book will be good or bad. It seems to be gossip for the most part. However, to trash it before it comes out because it says some stuff about Palin that isn't in line with the cult preachings is beyond ridiculous.
Somehow I managed to get intelligent laxative into the comment itself.

Gossip," and old gossip at that is just how one of the panelists on the Ed Show characteized it. She is insensed that it's getting so much attention and taking time away from serious issues.
The problem is that this is what passes for "news" these days. Sigh.

Perhaps the right-leaning, evangelical-supporting Walmart fears shocking- no, alienating?-insulting?- their core shoppers.

Some have been bashing it for it's unidentified sources (so what's new), but at least some of it was just confirmed by Steve Schmidt, so you can't say it is all hearsay. Still it is pretty much last years news.

It strikes me as much ado about nothing. Not only is it old news, the stuff that is real has been talked about to death, the stuff that is spin has been talked about to death. We knew John Edwards was not living up to his image, and that his wife was not the sympathetic victim. We knew the conservatives were lying jerks. Does anyone expect Harry Reid to be eloquent ever?
This wouldn't be the first time that Mark Halperin's motives are suspect. It isn't the first time he has acted like a rethuglican closet case. Why is anyone giving him, or this book any credibility at all? What a waste of time and energy.

From Flora Thompson's "Lark Rise to Candleford" "A little later, remembering man's earthly origin, "dust thou art and to dust thou shalt return," they liked to fancy themselves bubbles of earth. When alone in the fields, with no one to see them, they would hop, skip, and jump, touching the ground as lightly as possible... and crying, "We are bubbles of earth! Bubbles of earth! Bubbles of Earth!" "

The only problem with buying from Walmart online, is that they charge outrageous shipping charges.

It's not a bad read, what might be termed a "page turner", written with that rather breathless "I know something you don't " style. Still, I must admit it changed my thinking on some of the "08 election views I had. I ended up with a certain sympathy for Clinton which I never thought I'd have. It is as someone has said a re-hash of old events, but there are enough snippets of information which were totally unknown to me to keep it interesting. Certainly not a Pulitzer contender but readable enough, and some of the Palin pieces had me in stitches.

Gryphen is posting selections from the book on his blog,
http://theimmoralminority.blogspot.com/
This one caught my eye. Poor Joe Biden!
Quote
The Obamans were pushing a simple strategy: Ignore Palin. Don't engage her.
Whatever happens, don't let her lure you down any rabbit holes with her crazy syntax and run-on sentences.
But Joe couldn't resist--not at first. A week or two before the three days of formal debate camp started on September 29, the campaign put him through his paces in a mock run-through against Anita Dunn. She played the part by reading from a script assembled almost entirely out of verbatim Palin quotes.
That's too incoherent, Biden exclaimed. Is that really what she says?
No, that can't be her answer. But, I mean, she's not saying anything. How am I supposed to respond to that, folks? (P 406)

I liked this one.

When it was over, the Obamans exhaled and Biden was triumphal. Coming off the stage, he said to his aides, "You guys owe me. You don't know how much restraint that took." (P 407)
