It seems that people are having some issues with the forum chat interface. There are two different issues -

- intrusive google ads
- not seeing anyone in the chat and not being able to chat at all.

We recommend to anyone having these issues that you use a different way to access the chat - via Mibbit itself rather than via the forums.

How to use Mibbit chat -

Quote
http://www.mibbit.com/chat/

put your mudpuppy name in where it says Nick

put in #themudflats where it says channel

click on go

If you are going to chat regularly, we recommend you do two things - create a mibbit account & identify yourself to the server

How to create a Mibbit account -

This way is excellent because Mibbit will automatically recognise you each time you visit www.mibbit.com/chat

1. go to www.mibbit.com/chat

2. click on create an account

3. enter a username and password

4. on the my account screen, enter your email, if you wish, and then the following details: Server: irc.mibbit.com; Nick: your forum username; Pass: your server password, if you have one.

Coming tomorrow - how to identify yourself to the server, and make mibbit automatically log you into the server and the mudflats at the same time. Smiley

How can I make sure people cannot pretend to be me?

To do that, you need to register your nickname with the IRC server. It isn't too difficult, just follow the steps below.

How to identify yourself to the server -

It is best to use the dark green Mibbit tab to do the following stuff just in case you slip up and put your password into the chat. Wink

In the following code, replace your-password with a password you would like to use, and replace your-valid-email with an email address that belongs to you.

Code:
/msg nickserv register your-password your-valid-email

After that, Nickserv will tell you that it has sent you a passcode:

Quote
[11 13:03:55] -NickServ- A passcode has been sent to valid-email, please type /msg NickServ confirm <passcode> to complete registration

you'll get this email in a few minutes:

Quote
Subject: Nickname Registration (Nick)

Hi,

You have requested to register the following nickname Nick.

Please type " /msg NickServ confirm pa5Sc0d3 " to complete registration.

If you don't know why this mail is sent to you, please ignore it silently.

PLEASE DON'T ANSWER TO THIS MAIL!

Mibbit administrators.

When you receive the email from Mibbit, just copy that bit in the quotes, and it will recognize you and log you in right away.

How to identify yourself when you log on -

Every time you jump into chat, simply visit the mibbit tab, and put in the following -

/nickserv identify your-password

replacing yourpassword with your actual password.

Coming tomorrow - Mibbit options and settings of awesomeness..

If you want to discuss these how to guides or have any problems following the steps, please use this thread to discuss them, just so that the instructions thread remains tidy. Wink

To get yourself into the chat every time that you log into mibbit.com/chat, simply do the following:

1. In the My Account screen, where you may have put your email earlier, enter the following information into the labelled slots:

1. irc.mibbit.com
2. Your IRC username
3. Your IRC password

You can leave the other two boxes as they are, and then click on the Add button, and then click on the "Save and close" button below it to confirm your changes.

Then, to add The Mudflats chat to your list of channels, click on the Channels link in the top bar -

- which will lead you to the channels screen, where you will want to enter the information as shown -

After that, click Add and then Save and Close

Then you can check to make sure everything is working by reloading the page, and you should be set to go and chat with us all! Smiley

See you there!

For the time being, we have turned the chat off.

We do not have enough resources to staff the chat at this time.

Sorry all! But you do have a shoutbox on the sidebar which you are more than welcome to use as a chat area.
