Since the book is now coming out, we're going to start a new discussion here instead of the assorted threads that it's now on. From now on, please use this thread to post any comments about the book.
Remember, though, that some issues belong in Truth Squad not here. Please read this thread if you think you want to post something on the pregnancies or children:

A dig at President Carter -- no one is immune.
Quote
-- On Carter and Reagan: "I had followed the Iran hostage crisis and remember wondering why President Jimmy Carter didn't act more decisively. From my high schooler's perspective, I thought the question was, Why did he allow America to be humiliated and pushed around? The new president being sworn in radiated confidence and optimism. The enemies of freedom took notice. In years to come people would ask, What did he have that Carter didn't? To me the answer was obvious. He had a steel spine.

By the way, if you are interested in the "agenda" she lays out in the book, it's in the last Chapter, which I've read, and it's bleak, deterministic hooey about man being "fallen" and not perfectable, so public policy intended to ameliorate social problems are complete bunk, in her opinion, and the government exists solely as some dire father figure. If you are poor, you should know your place, accept your burdens gladly and take solace in the wonder and beauty of God's creation, which is better than, say, affordable health care. IT IS SOME GRIM AND HOPELESS SH/T, PEOPLE.
Jason Linkins take on the last chapter. Looks like that one is a joke also, too.

In preparation for the full fact-checking of the book beginning tomorrow, Andrew Sullivan has reposted his list of
The Odd Lies Of Sarah Palin: A Summary Before The Next Round
Quote
On the eve of Palin's latest version of reality, the Dish offers a recap of all the demonstrable lies she has told in the public record. We reprint the list as a public service and invite readers to run the new "book" through exactly the same empirical wringer, so we can compile an up-to-date and comprehensive list of the fantasies, delusions, lies and non-facts that Palin is so pathologically and unalterably attached to. Remember: we are not including contested stories that we cannot prove definitively one way or another or the usual spin that politicians use, or even hypocrisy or shading of facts. We are merely including things she has said or written that can be definitively proven as untrue, by incontestable evidence in the public record.
If you have the stomach to stand it - have fun - but beware of becoming twisted....

Taking off my mod hat.
This is some seriously deluded woman. Exactly what credentials and knowledge does she have that gives her the right to criticize others and to try and inflict her dominionist sh/t on others?
What the hell does she mean (as Linkens sums it up, and this is not a Palin quote ) "If you are poor, you should know your place, accept your burdens gladly and take solace in the wonder and beauty of God's creation, which is better than, say, affordable health care."

Sit and starve and freeze in rural Alaska, but the scenery is great?
This is the woman who has set up so many funds for her own benefit, robbed Alaska blind with her per diems, and god knows what else she has done. And she can afford to build a mansion next to her own house in Wasilla.
I am royally p*ssed off.

How easy to say, especially when you have a multi million dollar book deal and a new, warm home addition going in before winter. It will be hard to stomach this non-stop Palin week, unless it leads to her undoing.

No doubt the GOP base will be thrilled by the book (and the continuing attention paid to Sarah). On the other hand , this should push the small number of moderate Repubs away (maybe for good) and help convince independents that the GOP really has lost its collective mind. (In my opinion...)

It's a complex layering of things that I try to avoid in my life but I think I can unravel it as follows...
I'm sure that I
(a) will always have better things to read than SP's book and
(b) couldn't stomach the thing in the first place,
but I am WILDLY curious as to why Mr. Limbaugh
(c) who I once listened to in a "know your enemies" effort, but
(d) stopped 20 years ago because of how ridiculous and pompous he is,
(e) and yet have gleaned over the years that his does read and listen to a lot of stuff
(f) even if he completely misreads it
has stated he thinks SP's is the best policy book he's ever read.
You gotta be kidding. I sooooooooooooo want to know what strange policy issues she word-salads to death. Wow.
*I apologize, a little, for verb-ifying "word salad" - I have a terrible habit of playing the Cheshire cat, inventing my own words here and there. Still, it
fit
, ya know...

On a different note....
I was re-reading entries the previous thread on
Sarah's Book Deal
- the topic in the last few entries are about fact-checking. There's a general consensus, I think, in the world Out Here where reality reigns, that the fact checking will vindicate everyone BUT Sarah, and that the absolute opposite will occur within her Alternate-Universe fan club - not being particular strong adherents of facts in the first place, the fact checking will mean absolutely nothing to them.
However. I do think that SP has only the most surface respect for what she deems "real America" which presumably includes her fan base. Ms. Sarah "I need another mansion" Palin has shown that the shiny, glitzy world of money and power means more to her, and if any kind of fact checking exposes her deep down disdain for real, hard working people, and - a
big
if here - any of that fact checking filters its way thru to the fan-club, she may just manage to alienate her base.
Well, we can only hope. Stealth fact-seeding, anyone?

Re: Limbaugh saying the book was the best policy book he's ever read:
Just remember that Rush said after the 2006 elections that he was tired of "carrying water" for the administration, but he did it because the stakes were high.
In other words, he's admitted he'll say anything when (he thinks) the stakes are high.
And that includes carrying water for Sarah Palin and the neocon whack-jobs.

As I've been banned for ages from posting on HuffPo, I opted to send a heads-up email to Sam Stein (
stein@huffingtonpost.com
) regarding the 'cease and desist' notice from the Harper Collins attorney about their posting some pages of her book. It appears that no one else who has pages posted has been notified, so it looks like Palin is taking her revenge against Celtic Diva and Palingates. Maybe Sam will do a follow-up. Anyone who can post on various blogs that have pages up from the book, might want to consider letting the MSM and readers know this latest vengeance tactic of Palin's.

Any bloggers being threatened could simply reduce the amount that they quote and link to the not-threatened websites, like HuffPo and Wonkette, to read the pages in full rather than linking directly to their blogs.
Cheaper than paying an attorney to respond, still gets the pages widely read.

I think, once the book is sold in public, anyone can include quotes on blogs/in papers/in the media, as long as they attribute the quote to the source. So- that's, tomorrow?

Once the book is released for sale, copywrite laws still apply. Yes, it can be quoted (now and after the general release), but there is a limit on how much you can quote. The limit is fuzzy. Here's a summary on "fair use":

I really, Really think this is going to get interesting, very quickly. Not everyone had an advance copy of the book and some only had a few pages read to them by others who were in search of a quote. One such person is Andrew Halco. His first impression is as follows:
Quote
From the brief passages that Palin has written about me in her book, the term unmitigated lies, narcissistic delusions and libel came to mind first.
http://www.andrewhalcro.com/monday_comment_digging_two_graves
He thinks that those whom Palin has spoken of, I can only guess that he is including himself, are going to come out guns blazing in response to Palin's book. I sort of have a vision of an old west gun fight, with dusty street through main town, guns drawn at noon, but watch out for the gunmen on the roof top, just waiting for their turn.
Yep should be interesting days and weeks ahead as people actually get a chance to read the book. Van Flein might be very happy if people start filing lawsuits against her. I hadn't even really considered that until Halcro mentioned "libel".

An "effete chap"???
That's what "she" (meaning the writer, not Palin) calls Halcro!
Like we would believe that she uses a term like "effete chap", let alone understands the meaning.

Sad news - wonkette has removed the pages of the book for now. It did not receive a demand letter, but decided to remove them today anyway. Hopefully, they will return on Monday. Short excerpts are still available on the site, including a doozie about Track promising not to "cuss" for a day.
