Spam via Private Messages

Spam via Private Messages - Trinity

It has come to the attention of the admins and mods that a spammer named Trinity recently signed up and sent some private messages (PM's) to forum members. The PM went something like this -

Hi, there. I reading your posts and liked what I read. I post at a forum that's run by believers and non-believers, which is interesting. Anyway, it's a fun, friendly place, and we could use some folks who know the Christianity well. Hope to see you there!

The spammer has been banned from the forums to prevent further spamming of members.

Our apologies - one of the risks of allowing private messages on the forums is that they can be mis-used.

We encourage anyone who receives suspicious PM’s to report them. We have a how to guide on how to report a private message -

If you did receive one of these private messages we would appreciate it if you would take a moment to report it.

I got the same pm......but just deleted with no reply. Next time I will report it.

just wondering...does this particular group of mudpups have a common denominator in terms of a particular forum thread?

I'd have to see the list of folks sent email -- which I don't want to do, if any mods are reading this Smiley

-- but if I was to guess, I'd say the person mined the "Members" info available via the link in the lower left of this page. Since I was sent an email, I'd guess if it wasn't just random they were going either by alphabetical order or by # of posts. The # of emails sent might give some insight into whether it was done automagically or by script.
