I found the petition above after reading the Mudflats election news on the Fish and Game Advisory Board and then stumbling upon this article in Backpacker, January 2009.  The article, by Tracy Ross, was written before Gordon Haber was killed in the plane crash, but tells much about him and his work.  It's an excellent read.  The link will take you to page 1.  At the bottom (by the comments) you can scroll through pages 1 through 8.  Photos are included as well.  Much information on this issue included in this story.

 Smash

Here's the latest on the Board of Game's consideration of the wolf buffer zone around Denali.  Time for folks to weigh in.    I'll go find an address/E-mail for input to the Board of Game and post it soon.

The Denali buffer zone, as it is commonly called, was the hot topic of discussion on the opening day of public testimony Saturday on day two of the game board’s 10-day meeting in Fairbanks. ...The game board is considering proposals to expand and/or eliminate the buffer zone, which has been a point of contention for trappers since it was created.

Apparently the public comment period "officially" ended February 12.  But the meeting and publicity and the discussion of  either abandoning the wolf buffer zone around the park or extending it is currently ongoing in Fairbanks.  The Board of Game meets through March 7 (this week).

Agenda for the week can be downloaded as a pdf here.

Any pups in Fairbanks keeping up with this?

Here's the latest from ADN on the wolf buffer zone deliberations by the Board of Game in Fairbanks.  The National Park Service (Yay, about time!) is proposing an expansion of the wolf buffer zone.
